But why would you stay in a party if you disagree on the main premise of the party? Doesn’t conservative usually mean low government?

2019-06-27 06:20:20 UTC

If we flipped it around I think It gets weirder. Could you imagine a progressive who was a republican? It simply could never happen

2019-06-27 06:20:25 UTC

Why can the opposite happen?

2019-06-27 06:20:50 UTC

Well, it happened

2019-06-27 06:20:54 UTC

The American parties are monolithic. They are a collaboration of many sub groups. Hence why you have libertarian and tradcons in the same "party"

2019-06-27 06:21:45 UTC

@Murrax9 i can actually see why, prior to now, you would have conservative democrats, specifically if they are atheist

2019-06-27 06:22:13 UTC

Progressivism is seperate liberal and conservative. And sure there could be progressive Republicans. As all progressive is, is wanting change in society regardless of individual liberty

2019-06-27 06:22:23 UTC

all the christ tards on the republican side would be a strong enough motivator 😃

2019-06-27 06:22:47 UTC

Conservative just means "to conserve a status quo" whatever that might be to the person.

2019-06-27 06:23:05 UTC

Man I hate the two party system

2019-06-27 06:23:23 UTC

The fact that I have to chose between two groups that I have severe disagreements with sucks

2019-06-27 06:23:30 UTC

*choose

2019-06-27 06:23:43 UTC

Well it isnt really a 2 party system. Its multi party with a coalition prior to elections while UK for example coalitions post.

2019-06-27 06:24:14 UTC

What would the difference be?

2019-06-27 06:24:43 UTC

The key is to look at the individual candidates. Because they can be vastly different like tradcon vs libertarian in Republicans or demsoc and Corp dem I democrats

2019-06-27 06:24:44 UTC

Wouldn’t a 2 party system also have a coalition prior to elections?

2019-06-27 06:26:07 UTC

Not necessarily. You can have a pure 2 party system. But the US isnt technically that.litterally the only difference between US and UK is what side of the election the coalitions form

2019-06-27 06:26:20 UTC

And in regards to that, the reason my question came up is that all of the candidates tonight seemed exactly the same if I’m being honest

2019-06-27 06:26:27 UTC

They all are just with the party line

2019-06-27 06:26:40 UTC

And even then it is dicey. If the wrong candidate is chosen parts of the coallition break off. See when Bernie lost.

2019-06-27 06:28:23 UTC

But ultimately there are two parties that support what the majority of the party supports

2019-06-27 06:28:27 UTC

Most of today's were corpdems. The next one will have some flavor. But dems have been strange in that regardless of personal views the DNC (until recently) have been able to reign in dems to vote Corp dem. Republicans you see more conflict but they are many years into division in the party

2019-06-27 06:28:55 UTC

But dems are seeing more of the conflict with the outspoken demsoc like AOC.

2019-06-27 06:29:27 UTC

They all were for Medicare for all and most didn’t protest with open borders

2019-06-27 06:29:51 UTC

That seems very socialist to me, or at least opposite of pro corporate

2019-06-27 06:30:05 UTC

Not true, there were two moderates

2019-06-27 06:30:19 UTC

In regards to what?

2019-06-27 06:30:31 UTC

I forgot their names but one pushed for privatization

2019-06-27 06:30:37 UTC

Cause that's the corpdem conceded so Medicare for all years ago to placate demsocs.

As for open borders. Cheap labor is very pro corp

2019-06-27 06:30:55 UTC

Huh, I didn’t think of it that way

2019-06-27 06:31:01 UTC

Makes sense now that I think about it

2019-06-27 06:31:08 UTC

He opposed cutting private insurance

2019-06-27 06:31:30 UTC

Yea Delaney wanted privatization and an option for free Medicare for all

2019-06-27 06:31:38 UTC

But that’s still Medicare for all

2019-06-27 06:31:54 UTC

Half of Medicare is paid for through a private insurance route option or something.

2019-06-27 06:32:07 UTC

@EnderOctanus tbh that was the middle ground. The more dem soc are all med for all. The Corp dems have adopted a middle ground of "med and private"

2019-06-27 06:32:27 UTC

So where would a conservative Democrat fall?

2019-06-27 06:32:32 UTC

Corp dem?

2019-06-27 06:32:40 UTC

Or just somewhere else?

2019-06-27 06:32:49 UTC

@EnderOctanus no. There is an option for med advantage which is a private alternative but you pay the difference, and medigap which is all paid by the buyer
