Many of these questions are answered in the book "The Age of Reason" by Thomas Paine. I think everyone here would benefit if they read it
In today's world it would likely mean companies like Google would have those private armies
Anarchism to me has cool slogans but it ultimately isn't sustainable or good for the common person
Any form that is good, is good despite the anarchist part, it's not good *because* of the anarchist part
I think some forms of Anarchism are better than others. I would rather live in an Anarcho-Capitalist society than a full blown authoritarian communist one
!rank
No no, I was meaning that the good parts of Anarcho-Capitalism comes from the Capitalist part, not the Anarcho part
I think Anarcho-Syndicalists propose a decent argument too
Yea the decent an synd ones are the ones who kind of like Capitalism but don't want to admit it
Are ancaps even considered right winger anarchists? I know everyone hates it but I feel horseshoe theory eventually comes into play with anarchy
Some libertarians become so anti gov that they just end up being communists who call themselves ancaps
I think the modern idea of left and right is so arbitrary that the compass is worthless
I wonder how many of them are actually going back to that life style
I'll keep my civilization. I don't want to get eaten by a grizzly bear anytime soon
Are there any conservatives in here that consider themselves democrat?
If there are, why do you stay Democrat? I donโt understand these numbers saying that 30% of democrats consider themselves conservative. Seems almost paradoxical
But why would you stay in a party if you disagree on the main premise of the party? Doesnโt conservative usually mean low government?
If we flipped it around I think It gets weirder. Could you imagine a progressive who was a republican? It simply could never happen
Why can the opposite happen?
Man I hate the two party system
The fact that I have to chose between two groups that I have severe disagreements with sucks
*choose
What would the difference be?
Wouldnโt a 2 party system also have a coalition prior to elections?
And in regards to that, the reason my question came up is that all of the candidates tonight seemed exactly the same if Iโm being honest
They all are just with the party line
But ultimately there are two parties that support what the majority of the party supports
They all were for Medicare for all and most didnโt protest with open borders
That seems very socialist to me, or at least opposite of pro corporate
In regards to what?
Huh, I didnโt think of it that way
Makes sense now that I think about it
Yea Delaney wanted privatization and an option for free Medicare for all
But thatโs still Medicare for all
So where would a conservative Democrat fall?
Corp dem?
Or just somewhere else?
Yeah thatโs about where I fall. But I donโt agree with anyone on the democrats. Joe Manchin is the only guy I remotely agree with on that side
Do you think most people mean โsomeone who protects the status quoโ when they say conservative?
I mean inside the US
When the media polls democrats to see who is conservative
What do they mean by this
Man, politics has gotten so conflated and stupid
It just feels like no one knows what words mean anymore. Conservative seems to mean the same thing as republican. Liberal seems to mean democrat
Libertarian just means not wanting an authoritative state
All of this seems so silly and like itโs a game or something. I honestly donโt even feel like voting in the next election
But who is muddling with the terms?
Are both parties in on this?
Is this some global thing?
Iโve got to get smarter on this. I feel like an idiot to be completely honest
Iโm not quite sure to be completely honest. For me I just donโt want the state screwing with my daily life. But in a way I feel like there is a sort of civic responsibility that comes with this
Well maybe it is worth just opting out of politics in general then
As an individual you canโt do anything and gain nothing out of it except anxiety and hurt friendships
The world is screwed up feelsbadman
Maybe you donโt need to examine the political life and can just examine your own?
Does anyone here have what they would consider evidence for or against climate change being caused primarily by humans?
If so could you link me to it? I'm trying to research some more about it over the summer
