The comic misrepresents the elements leading to the building collapse. Metal weakens under extreme temperatures and you only need to heat up a metal enough to weaken it. With the weight of the rest of the building on top and other compromising factors, the amount of heat at the temperature that existed for that incident was sufficient to weaken the support enough to initiate a collapse.
