I did watch an anime (or at least a few episodes) about some French witch during the 100 years war

And was surprised at the attention to detail in that too

I mean, yeah, giant magical dragons n' shit

But there was also an interesting attempt at making the actual human v human combat.. 'realistic'

Same deal with the Girls und Panzer thing

Even when it's unrealistic, the creators seem to give a nod to the audience of "yes, we know" by having the characters remark about the scenario playing out

Good luck seeing that in a film; usually you just see people spinning around with swords killing people clad in full armour with one blow

Not so many movies pay attention to details

Any time I see a film where armour works

I'm like 'yay'

Doesn't even matter if it's a sci-fi film where the laser blast gets deflected

There's plenty to complain about in the latest Star Wars film, but something that personally irritated me was how the smuggler guy with the tiniest little blaster pistol, like the equivalent of a derringer, is able to one-shot an armoured stormtrooper through the breast plate

I would've even accepted him being knocked down but not dead

Since I'm not a fan of the franchise

Some parts I was willing to suspend disbelief for, 'because Star Wars'

Some parts I still facepalmed at

I think they overdid the 'big evil Empire v tiny rebels' narrative by giving the Empire a ship about ten times larger than the Super Star Destroyer and reducing the rebels to basically just one Cruiser and a Frigrate

I thought they improved Rey's character by making her less Mary Sue-ey

And the callback to Luke telling her she 'knows nothing' because she thinks the force is about 'moving rocks', where near the end of the film she literally has to move rocks to help people, that was nice

I thought Kylo's character was improved, and I liked the dynamic they established between Kylo and Rey
