No. The laws are in place to keep you from infringing on other people's rights, anything more than that is tyranny and I have no idea why you or anyone else would want that, it takes away your freedom and it's good for no one.
If an untyrannical law hinders you from living your life the way you want to, than it's only because a certain part of your way of life is infringing on someone else's rights (for example if your way of life includes killing or stealing). Otherwise I don't want the government to tell anyone what to do, it's needlessly authoritarian and stupid.
but muh paternalism. People don't know what they really want, it's better to have the state tell the mindless sheep how to live. <:pepe_smug:378719408341909506>

I feel bad for that black dude not having people at his birthday
I'd rather not acknowledge my birthday if possible.
It's nice hearing from family or the occasional card with cash in it, but I'm too old to give a damn.
the law telling you that you can't "infringe on other people's rights" is the law telling you how to live
Did you read anything after the word "no"?
Cuz I explained further
Laws are supposed to tell you how to live only in case you are directly hurting someone else and should otherwise be kept to a bare minimum
You don't use laws to tell people what to do just because you disagree with what just do or because you find it immoral
then why do you think laws should be used to stop people from doing things that "directly hurt someone else"
because you find it immoral?
No. We need an institution that meant to protect our rights - this is the government. Without it we can't have a society
It has nothing to do with morality
Legal =! moral
if it has nothing to do with morality then what is the basis for these "rights"
>arguing with a commie
government is an institution that is meant to protect our rights?
for real thou?
Rights are "privileges" that we are born with (for example - freedom of speech is something that you inherently have, it cannot be given to you, though it can be taken away), and we agree that everyone deserves. We agree not to infringe on someone's rights as long as they don't infringe on our own rights. We agree on these rights so we can live in a society
i never agreed to anything
So start a revolution
Or vote for an authoritarian
i choose to do niether
So you are forced to respect these rights
Otherwise you go to jail, that's how our society functions
so is anything that you "inherently have" that cannot be given to you a right?
No no no
why is freedom of speech a right
Only rights that we agree on as a society
Cuz that how it was decided, and for some very good reasons
Don't know
so what if, as a society, we were to agree that workplace democracy for example is a right
You are not born with that
