It's too inconsistent with rules & core philosophy

2018-04-27 10:48:46 UTC

It's sales pitch is based off of a temporary reaction to the restriction of ideas in the market.

2018-04-27 10:48:52 UTC

That's not a long-term solution.

2018-04-27 10:51:41 UTC

Yeah you gotta have something else to back it up. People might come because of the controversy but you have to have a reason for them to stay.

2018-04-27 10:58:31 UTC

I dunno gab seems consistent enough

2018-04-27 10:58:44 UTC

I haven't heard of them doing anything questionable yet

2018-04-27 11:00:05 UTC

You can still be genuine and be poor in business practice.

2018-04-27 11:03:13 UTC

I have yet to see them make bad business decisions either <:GWcfcThonk:357907199928041473>

2018-04-27 11:03:22 UTC

the site is amazing

2018-04-27 11:03:23 UTC

tbh

2018-04-27 11:03:37 UTC

You're talking to someone who has paid them for their pro service

2018-04-27 11:03:53 UTC

It isn't to dismiss them entirely. I just don't see their model working in the long run for the moment.

2018-04-27 11:04:41 UTC

It's going to be interesting to see how they transform though.

2018-04-27 11:04:59 UTC

If your model only reacts to your competitors, then you aren't steering the market.

2018-04-27 11:06:26 UTC

There's also the much bigger problem to face: People on average don't care enough about free speech to go in and write their own censor lists.

2018-04-27 11:06:36 UTC

People have been trained to have the big guys censor for them.

2018-04-27 11:07:46 UTC

The current model right now is a Free-For-All anti-censorship campaign.

2018-04-27 11:07:56 UTC

i don't think people are incapable of writing censor lists

2018-04-27 11:08:06 UTC

They aren't, but it isn't exactly a sales pitch.

2018-04-27 11:08:41 UTC

I think if Gab provided pre-made lists for people to apply, that's fix a lot of that issue.

2018-04-27 11:08:51 UTC

the main problem with the censor lists is that I've people remove words like kike and jew from their posts entirely and only link to like daily stormer articles to avoid the censor list

2018-04-27 11:09:09 UTC

Yeah it becomes a race

2018-04-27 11:09:31 UTC

Gab is a platform of principle, if you give away pre-made lists you're already not being neutral anymore

2018-04-27 11:09:48 UTC

And that's the problem.

2018-04-27 11:09:56 UTC

I don't mind if there's the option to censor for others.

2018-04-27 11:09:59 UTC

I can handle quite a bit.

2018-04-27 11:10:05 UTC

I don't expect this for others.

2018-04-27 11:10:28 UTC

I feel like gab is a reaction to social media censorship, and has corned themselves in terms of business strategy to attract new users.

2018-04-27 11:11:00 UTC

Not everyone cares about free speech, as much as I'd hate to say it.

2018-04-27 11:11:57 UTC

Again, it will be interesting to see how Gab evolves.

2018-04-27 11:13:02 UTC

I don't have to support a business just because it agrees with my views, and I can support a business that doesn't support my views on principle of acceptable business by the laws of the land.

2018-04-27 11:13:18 UTC

Convenience vs Principle

2018-04-27 11:13:24 UTC

people often choose the former.

2018-04-27 11:13:55 UTC

It's going to be one hell of an up-hill battle for Gab.

2018-04-27 11:14:22 UTC

I think the censor lists will not be as huge an obstacle as one would think

2018-04-27 11:14:47 UTC

And I think the hot topics provide an incredibly engaging way to entice people to voice themselves in ways twitter doesn't have

2018-04-27 11:15:05 UTC

but whether gab ever takes off into the mainstream is another question entirely

not until Twitter bans Trump

2018-04-27 11:15:36 UTC

I don't think gab is less convenient than twitter to be honest apart from the censor lists

2018-04-27 11:15:43 UTC

twitter ban trump pls

2018-04-27 11:15:54 UTC

if they offer only free speech they will be stigmatized as alt-white regurgitation chambers
