I cant debunk this, because I would need to be an expert and I am not. The official numbers are > 4 million afaik. I am not so concerned with the actual number, because it is the industrial execution of people due to their "race", which is the horrific fact of the holocaust.

i have heard very detailed stories told by a relative who survived and saw his mother sent to the chambers and not comming back, and guards shooting people for no reason

that's anecdotal evidence that i don't really have reason to believe. if anecdotal evidence lines up with the forensic/empirical evidence then it has credibility but as far as i'm concerned it doesn't

Stalin purged most jews from soviet leadership and the citizenry esp. in Ukraine was vaguely antisemitic. He would have gained nothing by faking it

the soviets did lie though, they exaggerated many things that were soon redacted when they were way too implausible for example mass electrocutons and Jews being turned into soap. not to mention they lied about this: In 1989 in the former concentration camp of Auschwitz, a plaque claiming that four million people had been murdered there, mainly Jews, is replaced with a plaque stating that one and a half million had died there. Strangely, the figure of six million Jews dying in the holocaust is not reduced accordingly to reflect this two and a half million reduction of the stated death toll at Auschwitz. Furthermore, no reasons for this reduction in the death toll at Auschwitz, nor the fact the six million figure has not been reduced to reflect this reduction are ever given.
