not all of which are easily accountable to a political or ideological movement

2019-06-02 06:10:32 UTC

not including the pushback

2019-06-02 06:10:48 UTC

what happens to those that oppose transhumanism, what if they get violent

2019-06-02 06:10:57 UTC

or violence begins in an attempt to share/control it

2019-06-02 06:11:09 UTC

if you dont start, it'll never happen. i think when the first signs of an actual breakthrough happen, the public WILL take notice and it will be able to be a larger social movement. its just a step up, like comparing the world in the bronze age to 1100ad, then 1100ad to 1800ad, then 1800ad to now, and so on.

2019-06-02 06:11:41 UTC

I suppose I should be clear... I don't oppose the development of Transhumanism technologies

2019-06-02 06:11:44 UTC

they should be explored

2019-06-02 06:11:49 UTC

they are just exceptionally dangerous

2019-06-02 06:11:59 UTC

i get what you're saying

2019-06-02 06:15:48 UTC

I'm a huge believer in the concept of Pandora's Box

2019-06-02 06:16:02 UTC

once an idea exists it should be explored, because you can't remove the idea

2019-06-02 06:16:09 UTC

it exists, therefore it must be expanded

2019-06-02 06:16:28 UTC

through proper exploration of an idea, it can be known, charted

2019-06-02 06:16:40 UTC

its dangers clear and understandable

2019-06-02 06:17:05 UTC

but if that exploration is suppressed... the dangers could come to light and we would be completely unprepared to deal with it

2019-06-02 07:26:10 UTC

A good example being those babies in China who had gene therapy

2019-06-02 07:26:46 UTC

The absolute worst case scenario for these technologies is that they're developed in somewhere like China, Russia or North Korea

2019-06-02 07:27:14 UTC

Designer babies are the first step

2019-06-02 07:27:42 UTC

And if they're made legal in one part of the world and not the rest, you'll get genetic tourism by the wealthy

2019-06-02 07:27:56 UTC

And eventually you'll get abuse of the technology by governments

2019-06-02 07:29:20 UTC

Individuals will be born and groomed to be dictators, who also happen to be 7 foot tall, predisposed to being incredibly intelligent and muscular, immune to every disease known to man, and generally have near perfect health, allowing them to outlive most other humans by 10-20 years

2019-06-02 07:30:32 UTC

I wouldn't put it past Chinese or Russian dictators, or (American billionaires) to grow clones of themselves, allow them to live until age 20, and then murder and harvest all their organs

2019-06-02 07:31:19 UTC

Anyone ever seen the island?

2019-06-02 07:31:31 UTC

That sort of thing seems incredibly likely

2019-06-02 07:32:18 UTC

Perfect blood type match too. Life extension is already thought to be possible by regular transfusions of much younger blood

Interesting conversation. *could* nanites actually make you live forever? Their medical capabilities are extensive, but wouldn't they extend your life rather than make you almost immortal?

I think technology can solve our problems, that with it we can create a world that has no resource problems, where no resource is finite. If no resource is finite and we live in plenty, people would be able to live as long as they want without serious repercussions.

2019-06-02 09:33:11 UTC
2019-06-02 10:24:35 UTC

active nanites could basically eliminate all natural causes of death

2019-06-02 10:24:45 UTC

short of extreme violence

2019-06-02 10:25:08 UTC

hypothetically eliminating disease in all its forms

2019-06-02 10:25:47 UTC

Would your body not age beyond the nanites ability to repair?

2019-06-02 10:26:16 UTC

depends on the capabilities of the nanites

2019-06-02 10:26:41 UTC

according to recent scientific thought experiments the maximum age of the human body is about 130 years

2019-06-02 10:27:03 UTC

even if nanites only allowed everyone to live up to that point it would be an immense affect on society

2019-06-02 10:27:11 UTC

people could work well into their 100s

2019-06-02 10:27:44 UTC

the actual aging process is brought about by the slow breakdown in efficiency of cells

2019-06-02 10:28:14 UTC

that process is determined by protein bonds on the end of our DNA... whose name escapes me

2019-06-02 10:28:20 UTC

starts with a T I think

2019-06-02 10:28:27 UTC

Telomeres

2019-06-02 10:28:32 UTC

yes
