Cook in the oven at low heat until it's done as you want, pull it out, heat the skillet with high temp oil (NOT OLIVE OIL), then sear the steak. Skillet needs to be HOT. About 1 min each side. Baste with butter while searing.
I do the exact opposite.

if you get a cast iron, you just have to sear one side. Then flip it and put it in the oven
The residual heat will sear the bottom and the oven will cook the center
Try the reverse sear. You don't get the "transition layer" between the crust and center. I like rare, and reverse sear yields a steak that's rare except for the very outside.
