I know some of people who would look at the old lady as a hero and and couple as Karen...
That's pretty intuitive. Death rates in this case measure the amount of people who die in proportion to the total population, while lockdowns only somewhat prevent the total number of cases from going up.
And with a disease such as covid-19, most people will be infected at one point or another, making it entirely useless.
The funny thing is I actually live in San Diego and see all kinds of crazy dumb stuff happen on a daily basis

the fact is - n95 masks can protect from things like droplets from spit/sneezing. however most pathogens are transmitted through mucus (nasally). The problem is with these loose fitting masks people constantly adjust them by moving their hands close to their nose - which can be more detrimental than helpful.
however, masks in general, if fitted properly, without the need for adjustment, obviously do help with prevention of larger droplets/particles (emphasis on larger) from contacting your face.
