Really though, Oryx have been released into the SW USA. Apparently they're fun to hunt. Several exotic old world herbivore species in the high desert.
There's an island in the Salish Sea (north Puget sound) called Spieden Island that was stocked with Corsican goats and Asian deer as a hunting park, later a private estate, and now a sanctuary. Both John Wayne and Alaska Airlines owned it at various points.
I've not been on Spieden, but I was lucky enough to be on a nearby island (hosted by an employer) quite an interesting part of America. The inbred pygmy specimens of the Columbia Blacktailed Deer (themselves an offshoot of the Mule deer) are numerous in the archipelago, coyotes and wild cats being exterminated several decades hence. Their coats are piebald and their antlers are asymmetric and measly. They eat trash and are generally lethargic. There is plenty of foliage, they just like the taste of trash! A metaphor for our own societal decadence? Sometimes, if for whatever reason, one of these deer feels the need to cross a channel to a nearby island, it is sometimes eaten by orcas.
They sell these in Minnesota, custom genetically tailored for optimal health....I will own a herd someday
