I mean to be fair we all make decisions emotionally, really and really I think our goals in many cases are the same. "Make life better for the community/country." But yes people want to short cut the logic

Oh of course but we tend to argue the underlying 'fact' without appealing to the actual sentiment

e.g. why do we like free(er) markets? Because it's good for us and bad for them? No because it provides opportunity for everyone
