but their moral compasses were obviously screwed up
My moral statements can apply to others? The determination of the moral statement is personal, but the moral statement can be applied to others
why?
That's called subjective morality
if it is your own morality
and presumably they also have their own
then theres is as valuable as yours
Because it's my application of values to circumstances. That's what a moral statement is
so they have just as much right to impose theirs on you as you do on them
Ok
And
and that is only wrong for you
for them, by your belief, it is good
Sure
They might
what is the practical difference
between this and moral nihilism
Nihilism says the individual cannot make that determination. That it's impossible to make a moral statement. You cannot apply values to circumstances because a 'value' is fictional
well you cant really apply values either
you can just make them up
everyone has their own
whoever triumphs, its the same
since they can now define a morality
Isn't that the truth
they can change people's minds
let me put it this way
if someone brainwashed you into thinking killing kittens was good,
well it isnt bad to you
to your current ethics it is,
but your ethics change after the brainwashing
so in actuality, there is no bad thing happening
Makes sense to me
you see how, to others, this looks like there is no morality?
if it can be based on something like feelings?
whats stopping me
from saying theft is bad
then right before i steal
saying its good
then saying it is bad, but it is morally good to keep the money?
and if i can do that, well it sure doesnt seem like there is any morality!
