aside from all of this,
there is some top notch chutzpah when it comes to the US pretending to defend itself against foreign propaganda
for the last 100 years or so we've been the number one exporter of propaganda
the "outrage" americans have over this sort of thing is so blind it is embarrassing
OMG RUSSIA IS INTERFERRING IN OUR ELECTIONS!
like we don't pour money into whatever side of every election we care about
**Sanctions intensify**
we don't even _deny_ it
we literally just give money to various organizations across the world that have various agendas
I remember like 10 years ago or so, a ton of democrat campaign workers went to israel to work with the opposition to Netanyahu
he didn't like that one bit
and laws came following that about NGOs
(getting foreign money)
basically Obama and his state department tried to ax Netanyahu
I only know the details of this because I paid attention to israel for other reasons
we do this _everywhere_
the US is one piece of work smh
I mean, fine do wtf you want, but don't sound all outraged when someone does it to you
That's why we are so well loved, buddy.
The US is a global powerhouse, of course people in other countries are going to be extremely interested in US elections.
Doesn't mean we shouldn't combat disinformation from outside the US, it means we have to take this sort of thing with a grain of salt imho.
It's a pernicious imperialism we practice. Makes more real enemies than real friends.
Gal, apparently.
There is a big difference between the US government and the US people. Most of the people I met in the government were normal hardworking people as long as they had functional jobs. Most of the people I met who worked in D.C. or who were high level managers, directors, etc. were shady AF. It seems like about 90% of the people who make it to the top are power hungry and therefore immoral. We need to rein that in.
For sure.
The start? Try to remove corporate interests from political campaigning.
I don't see power hungry as necessarily immoral
I don't see how to do that without curtailing FoS in ways that I would object to
Turns out Maw reads about 35% faster than I do. Goes with the typing disparity, more or less. Nice work
It's not so much they are the same thing. It's the fact that the system is set up to make it so you have to play the game that way if you want power.
I skip 35% more words than you do 😛
Zulu.. i see u everywhere... all the times in the streams
@linuxace That is a product of culture. If you are honest in a job interview, the chances of being hired drop. It is lying integrated into ontology. Only surgery can remove such a tumor.
Remember that...
At work now . Hopefully will catch the stream..
Oh crap. Work. Uh...bbl.
I don't think a corporation should have more say than your average American. It's all about the fundraising imho.
I would agree, but I think western culture is dying so I have an obvious bias. I would rather not be hired than to be dishonest which works but I have to work much harder to actually do things I say I do.
