Come on you know that's not true.
Seriously I can't even read these without cringing.
No I am not, and supposed to be a teacher.
Slavery was what it was exactly all about.
They're so vehemently laced with vile racism. Ugh.
Yep.... I know
I never said that salvery wasn't a reason, I said it wasn't the only one
Those Southern Democrats were real pieces of work...
It's the reason that all the other reasons are built from.
Are you even reading these quotes? These are the Succession Statements... the freaking reason stated for them leaving the Union.
So it was the reason.
It was a reason, a major reason, and was the final rallying cry. but the push for succession had been happening for some time
and slavery was one of many reasons
I don't think it was that northerners were less racist or less reliant on the goods produced in the south it's just that a few thought leaders change the paradigm politically.
And sometimes that just has to happen
It's literally because their economy relied on racism and slavery.
Me thinks me sees you back pedaling so gonna let it go at this point.
you are using that word incorrectly. But no, it was not the only reason. That is all I am saying.
@Liberty or Death, you just advanced to level 8!
The truth needs to be out there, but I agree that it is difficult to read. I’m reading The Heart of Darkness right now and have that same cringe feeling .
The Dixiecrats were recruited into the Republican party by Nixon... And that is a thing, I've listened to the recording at the Nixon Library.
No JD, I am not back peddling. I am reiterating the same thing I said since the start.
I was talking about during the civil war era.
It is actually not a thing Talon, but cool story though
that is feeding into the myth that the parties flipped when that simply isn't the case
Oh yeah... That too...
Oh, absolutely true. The South did not hold a patent on racism. Color was just an easy way to identify "property" vs a person.
This is a massive and complex issue.
Show is about to start. Have fun.
Weird that the southern states managed to get the northern states to force slaves that fled southern states back to the southern states, but no, it was all about federalism.
(Federalism until that didn't benefit them that is)
Wow he is something else.... "No no the ideology of the parties didnt swap, that is a myth." "No, slavery was not the reason for the Civil War."
It persists to today... There are studies about racial disparity in terms of wealth in Boston that are mind-boggling and Massachusetts is supposed to be "woke" (to use a term I hate).
Yes. I know. And it aggravates me so much when people say "Why are they still complaining racism is over because slavery ended in the late 1800s" while sitting in a house on property that has been in their family since the 1700s.
Wealth, prosperity, privilege and the ability to move upward is built in a generational manner.
People seem to forget what it looked like for newly freed slaves... no property... no job... no home and that persisted for decades
Then we get Jim Crow crap
And then Segregation
I bet there are people in this chat who were alive when black men and women could not go to a State University funded by their own tax dollars
