graduates of my school have pretty low incomes

2019-02-17 04:08:57 UTC

My actual smart friends found jobs that they can do without university and still make decent money

2019-02-17 04:09:27 UTC

I would highly recommend to younger people looking into that before deciding to go to university

2019-02-17 04:27:05 UTC

I feel like you talk about this every night, Jacob.

2019-02-17 04:28:37 UTC

ya you're right

2019-02-17 04:29:02 UTC

make sure to mention buying a car again

2019-02-17 04:29:47 UTC

"The average person who did x earns y"

oh okay, cool. Are you going to resign to being average or are you going to choose to live an extraordinary life?

2019-02-17 04:31:16 UTC

eh we could debate the validity of the statistics but I think you're right, I need to find something else to talk about

2019-02-17 04:31:53 UTC

You're clearly above average intelligence. You'll do fine if you're motivated.

2019-02-17 04:33:04 UTC

It's okay to be concerned about your future, but don't set yourself up with a career "predestination-ist" mindset. So dumb.

2019-02-17 04:33:52 UTC

@Jacob shoot for security before anything else is probably pretty sound advice. stay ambitious but be smart about it.

2019-02-17 04:35:13 UTC

so true. i did a similar thing by rigid planning years ago and failed successfully. now, i go with the flow of things.

2019-02-17 04:36:14 UTC

I appreciate the motivation. To be clear, though, the money isn't that important to me. When I talk about this stuff it's not with the intent of being pessimistic. @Papa Pizzagate

2019-02-17 04:36:30 UTC

@Kingfish Ya that sounds pretty reasonable

2019-02-17 04:37:02 UTC

I have some pretty fair life plans, but I’m still always looking at where I can try to get my foot in the door with more ambitious goals.

2019-02-17 04:37:14 UTC

@Jacob there is literally 0 virtue in being poor.

2019-02-17 04:37:46 UTC

oh no it's not that

2019-02-17 04:38:09 UTC

Alot of people romanticize it. But it's pointless and counterproductive.

2019-02-17 04:38:42 UTC

I would never *reject* the opportunity to gain money

2019-02-17 04:39:18 UTC

The problem is to become very wealthy you generally need to risk becoming poor and in a world like ours is at the moment economic stability is probably a serious concern

2019-02-17 04:39:45 UTC

Especially for someone still in or just graduating college

2019-02-17 04:39:49 UTC

Loans and all

2019-02-17 04:40:27 UTC

dont spend money

2019-02-17 04:40:36 UTC

thats my mantra

2019-02-17 04:41:02 UTC

^not the worst idea.

2019-02-17 04:41:08 UTC

Invest.

2019-02-17 04:41:25 UTC

I would reject money if involved a certain country in the middle east

2019-02-17 04:41:42 UTC

What I mean is I would never reject money just for the sake of rejecting money

2019-02-17 04:42:06 UTC

@Auf WI Same. My biggest expenses are gas, food, and IE.

2019-02-17 04:42:51 UTC

I guess I can't exactly say that because if I want something I kind of get it, but for the most part I save most of the money I make

2019-02-17 04:44:00 UTC

@Jacob Just remember that this isn't the 1950s where the job you get at 20 is the one you'll do for the next 45 years. If you get an internship, great! If not, do service sector work and try again next summer.

2019-02-17 04:44:50 UTC

I'm not getting my hopes up too much for an internship

2019-02-17 04:45:18 UTC

I don't have that much computer science coursework completed, and most of the internships are going to be in Seattle, not Spokane

2019-02-17 04:46:14 UTC

So I'm not gonna be super disappointed or anything if I don't get one

2019-02-17 04:46:56 UTC

I'm somewhat resigned to not getting an internship this summer too, but I'll still be working full time no matter what.

2019-02-17 04:48:17 UTC

My goal for 2019-2020 is to grow my business to the point that, if needed, I can provide employment or a summer job above market rate to IE members if they fall on hard times.

2019-02-17 04:48:23 UTC

Ya I'm definitely not gonna be a NEET. Honestly, working a service sector job and living in my own apartment sounds pretty nice. The only problem is I'm not gaining experience, but I can probably sort that out later.

2019-02-17 04:49:02 UTC

I’m gonna start my own gaming league

2019-02-17 04:49:09 UTC

internships are overrated; they do no necessarily improve your standing as compared to that of other students

2019-02-17 04:49:20 UTC

Well you certainly have the practice @Kingfish

2019-02-17 04:49:27 UTC

Controlling employees is awful
