Operation Paperclip – Secret OSS / CIC / CIA operation to help Nazis escape Europe to the United States and South America. Many of the top Nazis who ended up in the United States for a season were specialists in their respective fields that the powers behind the United States decided were too valuable to allow to go on trial for their crimes, but rather, were vital to scientific or psychological projects of the United States government in the Cold War period.
1941: The term, “psychological warfare” was a Nazi concept adapted and “Americanized”
The phrase “psychological warfare” is reported to have first entered English in 1941 as a translated mutation of the Nazi term Weltanschauungskrieg, (meaning world view warfare). It was first embraced by William “Wild Bill” Donovan, a prominent Wall Street lawyer whom President Franklin Roosevelt appointed as Director of the new U.S. intelligence agency, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS, forerunner of the CIA) who saw “psychological warfare” as a tool for “engineering of consent.”

One of the universities involved was Harvard, where Dr. Timothy Leary, along with Richard Alpert, later known as Ram Dass, conducted a series of experiments with LSD and psilocybin. Leary had come to Harvard after serving as director of clinical research and psychology at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Oakland, California.
The Kaiser Family Foundation, a “leader in health policy and communications,” was named for Henry J. Kaiser, a wealthy industrialist and ship builder who in 1946 began Kaiser Aluminum.
