Your electronic devices recieve updates. You record content on a PVR. Books are digital, just as information is now. News stories are digital. Even computer memory is going off local storage. With everything on some cloud or another, 1984 style history changing is easier then ever. They just remove the thing you saved, delete the file, change the content in the e-book, and if you question, your considered crazy.
