for heinous crimes you could implement chemical castration or capital punishment
Okey sure I don’t disagree. I am for the death penalty but I also acknowledge that the arguments against death penalty can be persuasive. Would you reduce the number of years a prisoner would have to face to avoid mass incarceration? That’s the philosophy behind why Sweden has very low prison sentences.
good question
excellent point
one simple measure is elimination of appeals especially when there is DNA evidence
for the death penalty application
the point is saving money in mass incarceration expenditure may lead to that money being used in social welfare programs or infrastructure
But the problem with that is the fact that Capital punishment costs more then giving someone life in prison. And that’s of course so that the government can’t go around executing people at the snap of their fingers. They need long processes and a large amount of money to do so and I believe that’s justified. So I don’t believe that it will be cheaper and save money for other essential things.
how is it more expensive?
The fact is that it is. Not how it is
I’d love to talk about this on chat but I’m busy rn
Maybe later tonight?
China loves executing people
I’m pro-China in that respect
That is factually inacurate: "China loves executing people"
It can relate to human executions from an utilitarian perspective at most.
I just told you why/how It’s more expensive. So that the government can’t go around executing prisoners at the snap of their fingers. And it takes processes, long and expensive processes. So it is more expensive so the claim that capital punishment gives us more money for other things is false. And so what if China executes alot of people? That doesn’t do much to the conversation about mass incarceration in the USA. And my question about reducing prison sentences still hasn’t been answered. I’m sorry if I come of as aggressive in any kind of way, because I’m not. Do you see the point?
> so what’s everyone’s background here? We got the Christian computer programmer. The army brat/college undergrad. Who else?
@Ozymandias Don't attempt to define people. Ask them who they are.
I would say who someone is is irrelevant - only their arguments. 🙂
It's okay for @Ozymandias to ask that.
That's a charitable perspective.
I am Christian Orthodox. I'm a doctor.
But if someone wants to ask and people want to answer - great 👍
I'm an atheist nihilistic absurdist. I am disabled and work for Trav.
Zino. You are fine saying that. I'm saying that in general I find it distasteful to try to put people into nutshells.
Yes, but it can be useful sometime, Mala.
Okay.
I dont mind being put into a nutshel.
Yer a Walnut!
Hehe 😄
I like talking to people who have different worldviews.
Same.
I will not at the moment say what I believe in in terms of Religion/Atheism because that might change the way you perceive my arguments in the future. So I will play devil’s advocate alot. But for your information I have deeply studied Religion for about 4 years, Politics aswell but not as deep as religion, then about Philosophy for 2 years and recently started reading Psychology.
You shouldn't be afraid. Its just words. It falls into our responsability to find meaning to improve our lives and intellect according to eachother's ablity
I dont care if Im ridiculed or whatever 😄 or distorted.
You can try too
Are you repsonding to me?
Yes Ed
Well I’m not afraid but I believe that one can have an agenda and be biased towards a view if they already know my view. If I said I was a muslim for example my opposition might immediately react to that either consciously or unconsciously and might not be persuaded as much by my argument because of the bias or agenda. The same if I claimed to be a christian, atheist, agnostic and etc.
So, do Black Lives Matter?
