"Learn to be indifferent to what makes no difference." - Marcus Aurelius

2020-09-23 01:06:56 UTC

I understand that mr Aurelius was quite indifferent, since he was a General and very few things really made a difference for him😄

@m.miller you killed it today!

On the server i moderate we have 30+ people every day on voice and 10k members. From experience, I learned that a more structured format brings out more relevant information. Every1 has 1 minute to present his concise point. Than there is open discussion on the topic.

Does this discord channel lean more conservative/ religious / etc.?

2020-09-23 01:19:36 UTC

what's great about it is I have never perceived a leaning, people have been all over the place

2020-09-23 01:19:46 UTC

we tend to be skeptical

2020-09-23 01:20:20 UTC

Like general philosophical skepticism?

2020-09-23 01:49:18 UTC

We all engage each other’s views is how I see it. Perhaps we’re all skeptical of each other

2020-09-23 01:49:38 UTC

I’ve been impressed with the diversity for sure to add to Mack’s point

2020-09-23 02:06:10 UTC

I tend not to be skeptical from the beginning cause it hinders conversation and meaningful information is lost if you are skeptical i think

1.2 million - The worldwide Jewish population (comprising the Middle East and the rest of Europe) was estimated at 1.2 million.

2020-09-23 02:09:04 UTC

Too much fuss for 1.2 milion ppl

People try to learn

2020-09-23 03:32:30 UTC

I find that I’m not allowed to be skeptical of the skeptics.

That they aren’t so skeptical of their own skepticism; that maybe there is one truth, one way, and that it can be sensed (even if not perfectly embodied)

2020-09-23 03:41:44 UTC

What happens in the US if police catches you with 1.5 grams ?

2020-09-23 03:42:00 UTC

Of weed?

2020-09-23 03:43:22 UTC

Yes

2020-09-23 03:43:58 UTC

Well, marijuana is illegal in some states and legal in others.

2020-09-23 03:44:11 UTC

If you have 1.5 grams of weed in California, your fine.

2020-09-23 03:44:44 UTC

But if you have 1.5 grams of weed in Alabama you'll get arrested.

2020-09-23 03:44:55 UTC

Here it doesn't matter so much, you have to go rehabilittion for a month 4 sessions and listen for 30 minutes what the psychologist says

2020-09-23 03:45:27 UTC

Omg... going to prison for that is really bad. too hursh on ppl

2020-09-23 03:48:15 UTC

Well, it depends on context as well.

2020-09-23 03:48:32 UTC

First time possession it's a misdemeanor in some states.

2020-09-23 03:49:20 UTC

But if your trying to sell it, or get caught with it multiple times then you'll go to prison for a year or two.

2020-09-23 03:49:58 UTC

Didnt know so much different the States are.. can you choose your prison you want to go to in US?

2020-09-23 03:50:21 UTC

No, the judge chooses the prison for you.

2020-09-23 03:50:42 UTC

Oh

2020-09-23 03:51:04 UTC

And if you want to swap it ? they let you ?

2020-09-23 03:52:07 UTC

No, the judge tells you what prison you will go to, and you have no say in what he picks.

2020-09-23 03:53:43 UTC

Its 7 AM almost need to go thanks a lot guys I learned a lot today. See yu

@JPMcGlone one can only be skeptical of ideas, not people (‘skeptics’). And to your point, maybe there is. Just hasn’t been demonstrated with any evidence or logical argument. And maybe it can’t be because it’s an unfalsifiable position to hold 🙂 ... what I mean to say is ‘ Only idiots are certain’ - on both sides of any idea

2020-09-23 05:53:13 UTC

Borrowing that phrase for ease of communication of what I’m trying to say - not calling anyone an idiot

2020-09-23 06:15:36 UTC

“Only idiots are certain” sounds like you’re certain about that

2020-09-23 06:21:25 UTC

It’s an English saying. As I said I borrowed the phrase to communicate that certainty is not good on either side of an argument - nice good faith shown to throw that back in my face even though the whole point of my message was to agree with you in that both sides should be skeptical and not hold on to dogmatic certainity. If I wasn’t clear enough. I apologize.

2020-09-23 06:21:45 UTC

I know 😉 I’m just pointing out the irony of that statement
