To continue to live or exist, especially in spite of danger or hardship.
Everything we do is to protect ourselves from threat.
That is to survive.
@campodin false.
Yeah.
We don't eat to survive
Now threat has become meaningless
We eat because we like it.
People do things that are detrimental to the survival of their genes, of humanity, and of life
Lol food is for nutrition
And often that action is in contrary to survival.
What I claim is not that all organism act this way, but that this is how all organisms SHOULD act
Yeah and those are the degenerate behaviors
So when you go to the store, you buy anything.
Those who do so well pass on their genes. The rest are lost to time
You don't look for things you would like more, or that you enjoy eating?
@Summī Imperator, 呪い殿 I'm not entirely sure what you're saying here
I'm talking to the other one.
He said food is for nutrition.
Yes.
The ultimate goal?
The biological purpose of enjoyment is to encourage you to pursue good behavior
Then what about priests?
@Summī Imperator, 呪い殿 remember what I said about groups?
Are priests degenerate because they take vows to remain celibate?
That is contrary to the Telos.
Which is the survival of genetic material.
A priest serves a function in his group that increases group cohesion and the likelihood of shared genes surviving
Not all religious institutions require or encourage celibacy
Then again
By your definition
Orthodox priests marry and have lots of children
I'm not arguing for, or against. Just asking the question.
I would argue that catholic priests are currently degenerate
A celibate priest is acting in a way that will increase the likelihood that his genes will survive, because his siblings, cousins, and entire extended family which shares genes that belong to his group benefit from priests promoting social norms in the group
#notall
I see.
Also the term degeneracy doesn't apply to the absence of good behavior. It is used to identify behavior that is similar to good behavior but misses the mark
But snake is right
No.
