What kind of hearing protection can we use and still hear our radios?

2020-05-08 02:14:04 UTC

Or anything that would integrate with a BF-F8HP

2020-05-08 02:14:11 UTC

Without a crazy price tag

2020-05-08 02:26:23 UTC

An earpiece under over-the-ear earpro could work.

2020-05-08 02:26:57 UTC

I was thinking about that, wasn't sure about it tho!
I'll try it out

2020-05-08 02:37:47 UTC

I found ear plugs that have a hole for low decibel noise that is compatible with some radios, gonna try that out

2020-05-08 19:41:01 UTC

Well i went with the better than no Comms route, until i can budget out a better one.

2020-05-08 19:41:10 UTC

I know i know, its baofeng

2020-05-08 19:42:04 UTC

You'll never need more

2020-05-08 19:50:54 UTC

I do feel i could use a better antenna though

2020-05-08 19:50:54 UTC

The sainsonic antenna that comes with that one is pretty good, a lot better than the stock uv5r antenna.

2020-05-08 19:51:13 UTC

well, shiiit, good to know.

2020-05-08 19:51:25 UTC

It says sainsonic right?

2020-05-08 19:51:30 UTC

yeah its a sainsonic

2020-05-08 19:51:33 UTC

Nice

2020-05-08 20:19:47 UTC

@Yeetasaurus Rex - Nothing wrong with starting with basic.

2020-05-08 21:36:39 UTC

Ideas for a cheap mobile that has the same coverage of freq as a baofeng. Setting my second rig and need radio and antenna

2020-05-08 21:37:01 UTC

Plan on tx only on 2m and murs

2020-05-08 23:12:12 UTC

@LoudPills - http://www.miklor.com has a crapton of cheaper radios reviewed on his site. This is a great resource for insight and tutorials on basically anything cheap radio.

2020-05-09 01:53:52 UTC

@[VA] JediComms that base station has a unity in it? I found a guy in Oregon with a cheap unity mobile but he’s a dumb cb’r and won’t ship it. Got it from an ex-railroad police car he bought at salvage for the hemi engine.

2020-05-09 02:04:27 UTC

@redbeard - Yes, it is an XG100M Unity. Great radio.

2020-05-09 02:06:16 UTC

Yeah I want one. I might try calling the closest UPS store to that guy and arrange a drop off. See if I can send them a payment to hand him when he drops off the radio. Only wants like $250 for it with the good control head

2020-05-09 02:07:57 UTC

@redbeard - You mean the touch screen like mine here?

2020-05-09 02:14:23 UTC

Yeah pretty sure it has the same head

2020-05-09 02:15:00 UTC

Even if it didn’t idgaf I just want a unity

2020-05-09 02:23:56 UTC

@redbeard - There are two control heads - CH721, which is a "dumb" CH and limits the MRU to hold one personality. The touch screen, CH100, is a "smart" CH and allows the MRU to hold 10 personalities. The CH100 is pretty cool but It can be fickle. I had one on the base station but it wouldn't play nicely so I finally swapped it for a 721.

My only issue is being able to program trunked systems for monitoring. I wonder if there is any hacks like there are for Motorola

2020-05-09 02:28:52 UTC

I was told even an older radio like a 7100 has blocks in the software for major trunked systems like Ohio marcs

2020-05-09 02:36:13 UTC

@redbeard - It isn't the radio, it is the radio programming software that makes it "impossible". Without system admin permission for the particular trunked system, you won't get a pass.

PS MPU5 features give me a boner

2020-05-09 04:03:28 UTC

Too bad us civilians can’t get them

2020-05-09 04:03:52 UTC

Anyone know of something similar in the $1-2000 range?

2020-05-09 05:58:04 UTC

Is it legal to hack your HAM to communicate on MURS, CB, FRS/GMRS frequencies as long as you don't transmit? Or is mere possession a crime?

2020-05-09 06:00:30 UTC

@Bogs_Bunny constitutionally no

2020-05-09 08:32:09 UTC

@Bogs_Bunny - The FCC has regulations about transmissions/transmitters, not reception/receivers. Any radio can receive anything it can tune in and hear.....but if that radio is not type certified to transmit on a particular frequency and you do, then your action can be considered illegal.

Anyone use a BF-F8HP
When I plug in a headset it plays audio out of the headset and the integrated speaker
Wanted to know if that's a fault or if there's a way around it

2020-05-09 17:41:52 UTC

I have the UV-82HP and don't recall it ever doing that.

2020-05-09 17:49:31 UTC

Damn, gonna call them up

2020-05-09 19:42:00 UTC

Article was written in 2016 but still has relevancy.
