should've assumed that. don't know why i didn't even check there. thanks man
using a run of the mill MICH helmet. well they fit underneath?
Ebay has deals from time to time
So does anyone actually run a baofeng in kit or is that just the general noob go to radio?
Hey, some of us noobs are in here 😤
Plenty do because thats all they have/can afford/know how to use but they are the quality of kids toys and have a shitty ui.
Will a dual band 2meter/440 have a decent swr on murs freqs?
Thanks for sharing
Secondary comms up and running 😂
Just got 6 of these on ebay for $125, what am I in for
Probably a knockoff tbh. Check once you get them
It's from a known seller but definitely will
UV5Rs run about $20 they should be legit, good investment
I'm absolutely new with comms. Would this be worth considering for a small group?
@poorwithagat Sure, depending on the range situation. These operate on ultra high frequencies (UHF: 400-520 MHz) alone, so even without a license they could be used to transmit up to 2 watts on the "Family Radio Service" channels. They would be good for comms in urban environments or rural areas within a mile or two. But because they operate only on UHF, you wouldn't be able to use the unlicensed "Multi-Use Radio Service" (MURS) channels on very high frequencies (VHF), or listen to FM radio, like some other baofengs.
pay 10 bucks and get a ham radio license. if you use them inna woods you'll probably be ok, it's not worth their resources to triangulate where you are if you're just hunting and camping. *not that I would advocate for doing anything illegal*
I strongly recommend getting your ham license. It's not hard and it's a fun hobby that's useful when SHTF
Whata a good starting radio something i can put on my side or pc
Been looking at baofeng
Baofeng is the usual starter... Retevis RT82 is under 200 and does 128 bit encryption
Radio encryption is illegal for us peasants
Lmfao... that is completely wrong
It has changed?
Never was... always a misconception.
Not legal on certain frequencies
Why did they try to legalize it in a bill then?
No clue what you're talking about... again most people don't understand the rules, politicians especially
Hmm if so that's awesome.
Also, never really been any prosecution from "illegal" use of radio frequencies
I'd shell out a couple hundo for encrypted radio comms.
After my gun stuff is sorted of course.
Like, you're not supposed to encrypt ham or FRS channels, but who's gonna catch/find you? No radio police
The RT82 sounder $200 for 128bit.
HAMs are notorious snitches I've read unfortunately.
