@[LA] Zoomer Medi/k/ you’d be amazed at how bad the medical support logistics are in *some* units

2020-05-01 05:03:32 UTC

I don’t know if I would

2020-05-01 05:03:42 UTC

Considering how fucking stupid military is

2020-05-01 05:05:31 UTC

Then again...I’ve been handing garbage bags full of medical before, or had a ammo can in front of the medical bay that you could grab fresh TQ’s from at your leisure

2020-05-01 05:05:59 UTC

I want

2020-05-01 07:20:15 UTC

As far as RATS goes

2020-05-01 07:20:19 UTC

Ramseys are worse

2020-05-01 19:45:26 UTC

The grafkette or however it was spelled (we just called them reusable tq’s) or only for starting iv’s in place of the normal rubber band style that comes in an iv start kit and for that matter you should invest in a NAR Boa

2020-05-01 19:48:35 UTC

As far as hemorrhage control only CO-TCCC approved tq’s should be used. Rats cause nerve damage their only real claim to fame was portability and a false claim that they would fit on kids whereas CAT’s and others wouldn’t

2020-05-02 01:35:23 UTC

I know a lot of people really love the sof-t wide, but I have a few and really just do not like them.

2020-05-02 01:36:55 UTC

I prefer the sof t over the cat but only because it's what I learned on and what we carried in our trucks

2020-05-02 01:36:58 UTC

They have better quality materials, yeah, but they just feel awkward. Maybes it because I’m so used to the cat tq, but nobody ever really gave me any real reason they preferred them other than “THATS WHAT SF USES” and even then,

2020-05-02 01:38:21 UTC

What gets me with them is not using them on others, but myself. That and the whole “don’t grab the windlass when pulling it tight initially” like you can with a cat.

2020-05-02 01:43:43 UTC

I think it honestly comes down to what you were trained with between the two

2020-05-02 01:44:29 UTC

I can do one handed and send app with a sof t better than I can a cat, but again it's the only one I've really handled regularly

2020-05-02 01:47:44 UTC

I definitely can not use a sof t one handed. They just feel that little bit more awkward to me, they never want to pull through tight enough for me to feel confident to start with the windlass. Always feels like there’s just that little bit too much slack.

2020-05-02 01:50:16 UTC

It all comes down to practice I guess. Everytime I try to use a cat especially one handed the velcro hangs me up

2020-05-02 09:02:32 UTC

https://techcrunch.com/2020/05/01/nvidias-top-scientist-develops-open-source-ventilator-that-can-be-built-with-400-in-readily-available-parts/. I saw this and it got me thinking would it be worth investing in more obscure diy medical devices as hospitals and actual medical devices might eventually become unavailable?

2020-05-02 11:44:34 UTC

Keep practicing because in a real life situation that one handed tq may save your life.

2020-05-02 20:11:42 UTC

Who has recommendations for IFAKs?

2020-05-02 20:13:02 UTC

@Copbot1001 pre-made? Building your own? You need recommendations for medical gear or pouches or?

2020-05-02 20:13:40 UTC

I’m looking at pre-made but if you have a list of basic gear for a build your own that could be helpful as well

2020-05-02 20:14:18 UTC

I’m a rescue scuba diver and I’m thinking about getting a kit for emergency O2 and a basic aid kit centered around dive injuries but I could also expand it to be more versatile

2020-05-02 20:15:58 UTC

I’m landlocked so I couldn’t help with dive related stuff but if you’re wanting o2 then that’s no longer an ifak.

2020-05-02 20:17:23 UTC

Tourniquets buy either CAT or SOF-T wide get both vented and non vented chest seals and some impregnated gauze like quickclot

2020-05-02 20:18:37 UTC

Carry some non impregnated gauze as well and some 4x4 gauze pads......North American Rescue will have practically everything you need

2020-05-02 22:20:58 UTC

Check the pins in the Medical channel of the library here.

2020-05-02 22:21:08 UTC

I have a complete and comprehensive IFAK list made.

2020-05-02 22:22:37 UTC

Should be at the bottom of the channel list.

2020-05-03 03:47:44 UTC

Really pissed I haven’t been able to practice IVs

2020-05-03 03:47:57 UTC

<@&704854125346553896> boys imma practice on one of you

2020-05-03 03:53:12 UTC
2020-05-03 03:53:39 UTC

Is that how we’re gonna do it when we all train?

2020-05-03 03:55:12 UTC

Last person who touches their nose has to take it?

2020-05-03 04:11:16 UTC

Basically. Or they’d go first

2020-05-03 04:13:55 UTC

I guess I’m finna stock up on everything

2020-05-03 04:13:58 UTC

Not sure

2020-05-03 04:15:00 UTC

I ain’t got the moola

2020-05-03 04:16:01 UTC

Just befriend an emt/medic in your local area. We all carry shit home

2020-05-03 04:47:29 UTC

2020-05-03 04:47:35 UTC

I don’t know any here like I did in Louisiana
