Zev is a bit cheaper than the noveske too innit

2020-05-25 20:15:11 UTC

They're cheaper but appear to have tighter tolerances, or oversized components

2020-05-25 20:15:26 UTC

something the hodge receivers are known for as well

Wonder how long my first poverty poney I got a few years ago will last

@Artemis you could also patiently scour the used market for hodge, they do appear often enough to get them

idk outside of bench competitions, guns are tools to me. Granted having really nice tools is super cool

2020-05-25 20:22:36 UTC

There's also meme guns and flexin guns, don't forget about those

2020-05-25 20:23:20 UTC

I shall purposefully and aggressively forget about those.

How well do the gen 3 billet uppers fit together?

2020-05-25 20:29:34 UTC

If I'm paying that much, I don't really want any wobble. Otherwise, my only concern is if it'll fit whichever handguard I choose.

2020-05-25 20:34:33 UTC

Looking at the hodge / zev wedge lock rail. Seems to have an even more solid lockup than geissele

2020-05-25 20:35:23 UTC

Does it come in mlok?

2020-05-25 20:35:40 UTC

@Artemis if i remember correct they did a test with the zev rails and it took 800 pounds to finally get the rail to start separating

2020-05-25 20:36:16 UTC

Pretty sure Zev makes the rails Triarc uses

2020-05-25 20:37:24 UTC

Those receivers fit together beautifully and tightly @Artemis

2020-05-25 20:37:45 UTC

From what I understand, Hodge invented the mount system and a bunch of other companies copied it. Triarc has a rail using a similar mounting system but a different rail design

2020-05-25 20:39:35 UTC

Zev makes the hodge rails. Only difference is that the hodge ones are made of 7075-T6 aluminum and Zev uses 6061. Also a couple design differences apparently.

2020-05-25 20:39:59 UTC

after they came out, everyone and their dog started using the wedge lock technology though

2020-05-25 20:40:04 UTC

That sounds about right all around

2020-05-25 20:42:12 UTC

They also have an anti rotation pin that slots into a hole drilled in Hodge and Zev upper receivers. It appears the noveske gen 3 upper has the same hole but idk if it lines up the same

2020-05-25 20:43:40 UTC

being that tiny hole above the gas tube hole

2020-05-25 21:13:08 UTC

Read some testing showing that the zev rail has less deflection than the g$ mk18 rail. When placing a 15 pound weight at 10" from the receiver face, repeatedly, showed an extremely consistent shift of 5moa

2020-05-25 21:13:46 UTC

while the mk18 was 5.5 and not as consistent

2020-05-25 21:18:46 UTC

Curious why they chose the Mk18

2020-05-25 21:18:52 UTC

Also do you run lasers?

2020-05-25 21:24:27 UTC

Hopefully some day

2020-05-25 21:26:36 UTC

Gotcha

2020-05-25 21:26:51 UTC

also I got that wrong, they picked the mk16

2020-05-25 21:27:19 UTC

they tested the mk16, zev wedge lock, and bcm mcmr based on word of mouth from people in forums saying X is strongest rail

2020-05-25 21:35:21 UTC

🙄 well, they purposely made the Mk16 *less* strong at the request of socom/usasoc to make a lighter rifle. It wasn’t designed to do that

2020-05-25 21:40:41 UTC

Most people on internet forums probably don't know that. They just think newest geissele urgi rail that's super expensive must be strongest

2020-05-25 22:15:55 UTC

Yes haha. Arfcom has to be...filtered haha

2020-05-25 22:32:25 UTC

I actually have a mk14 on my other one and it's a fantastic rail. My only issue, which is really nitpicking, is that the set screw tabs that center it on the upper seem a bit inelegant compared to the rest of the rail. Idk what it is about it but it just feels like a half assed way of aligning a rail that nice.
