What's up everyone I'm new here. Can I get y'alls opinion on canted red dots? I use a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x as my standard optic but I have trouble using a non dominant grip and maintaining the proper eye relief. Would a 45° canted Holosun 407C V2 be an acceptable fix for this issue?
That’s kind of a complicated question, with a lot of variables.
I think canted red dots are sweet, and have ran them on several guns. But your problem could also be fixed by training and diagnosing your form carefully, or upgrading your primary optic to one with more foregiving eye relief
My goal in all this is to have a single 18" AR to train on and become proficient with.
I don't think the eye relief of my optic is too unforgiving as I've used much worse, but I think it's just inherent in my form as you've said.
I never handled a canted setup before but I could see how it would make for an aid shooting close range or on my non dominant side. I was just making sure they're not just a game/movie gimmick.
Canted, or stacked, back up optics are definitely a useful addition if needed.
It’s also worth considering how likely it is that you will use your rifle with your non-dominant side. Definitely an awesome thing to train on, but maybe not something to set your rifle up around
Thank you for the wisdom, I think I'll get one as I feel it'll help out significantly with shooting <50 meters and offering another shoulder to use.
I don’t know shit about canted sights. I like em but it’s one of those things I like from a distance but I won’t knock what other people like 🤙🏻
You might find that stacking it on top of your primary optic would be better than canting, as you can still use it from both shoulders, and is easier to use through masks, etc. but it sounds like you have a good idea/plan
If you like it run with it
