Lol well Sawyer makes a few models.

2020-05-13 15:54:23 UTC

Yeah the Sawyer seem legit, anyone have any bad experiences with them yet?

2020-05-13 15:55:53 UTC

On a more serious note, I did see something *really* strange on my trip into Worcester today.
The two gun shops I passed on the way(one small locally owned and a larger one) both had police sitting in the lots. The small one in my town is usually frequented by the local pd so no shocker there, but the other larger shop had a state police cruiser clearly just staking out the lot. MA is NOT gun friendly but seeing that was.....concerning. The Gov just had to allow the shops to open back up, and I got the "intimidation" vibe from the statey camped out

Mini and Squeeze aka Point One are comparable to the lifestraw. The squeeze is thicker than the mini for faster water flow. They have a base camp gravity style one called the Point Zero Two. The filtration holes are five times smaller.

2020-05-13 16:00:54 UTC

@Bogs_Bunny so the point zero two would be my best bet?

2020-05-13 16:01:54 UTC

Yeah but it's bigger with a slower flow. More suitable for a home or base camp.

2020-05-13 16:03:49 UTC

@Bogs_Bunny hell yeah, thanks. What would you recommend for on the go, the point one?

2020-05-13 16:05:08 UTC

Yeah. I like the better flow compared to the Mini. You could weigh the trade-off I suppose. The mini is a little thing and a bit cheaper.

2020-05-13 16:06:58 UTC

@Bogs_Bunny cool, I'll keep that in mind๐Ÿค˜

2020-05-13 16:09:44 UTC

@Jackal happy to help ๐Ÿ‘

2020-05-13 16:12:04 UTC

Yeah definitely some great advice. Now I'm actually looking forward to getting one. Still gonna grab tablets but im always looking for backups and kick ass camping accessories

2020-05-13 16:12:53 UTC

Yea, tablets are a great redundancy tool. Sort of cheap, small, great for back up, barter etc...

2020-05-13 16:13:21 UTC

I always keep some in my 1st line gear... Never know what happens to your main filter/straw

2020-05-13 16:13:34 UTC

Liquid bleach is good but the shelf life sucks

2020-05-13 16:13:35 UTC

what are you guys using for tablets

2020-05-13 16:14:29 UTC

Aquatabs, .13cents each pretty good review

2020-05-13 16:14:31 UTC

I have a chart back at home for how many drops of bleach you need to purify certain amounts of water.

2020-05-13 16:15:21 UTC

How is the shelf life on tablets? It's gotta be better than bleach's.

2020-05-13 16:15:21 UTC

Bleach is great for home/bug in, Just have to watch shelf life. I know people have talked about Pool crystalized bleach having better shelf life... but havnt looked into it

2020-05-13 16:16:17 UTC

These ones say 5yr shelf life, i know ive used other types well past that

2020-05-13 16:24:19 UTC

Yeah I have tons of the aqua tabs and a bunch of the like Wal-Mart camping ones lol. Probably enough to purify a swimming pool honestly

2020-05-13 16:25:00 UTC

@John Public same, I think I only have 1 pack of tablets

2020-05-13 16:27:30 UTC

I think i grabbed 300 tabs(3 packs) in all my shopping the last few months

2020-05-13 16:27:32 UTC

I plan to be able to boil what id need after shtf but I want to more than I could possible use and then some for backup and bartering if possible. Plus I like how easy it is for use with the kids when we do get to go on some trips. I'm big on backwoods camping but haven't gone with them yet due to age. Another reason I'm pissed about the damn corona. Fucking up my vacation plans๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

2020-05-13 16:28:33 UTC

@ChefJeff77 you gotta bump thise numbers up๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
I think last count I had just shy of 12000. Ive been getting them for years

2020-05-13 16:30:05 UTC

Heard that. Id say tabs are just like ammo and some 1st aid... can never have too much, as long as you arnt ignoring other areas

2020-05-13 16:30:50 UTC

Ive had to shed ALOT of preps over the years... so not as much in some areas as i like

2020-05-13 16:31:23 UTC

I mean 36000 gallons of clean water and 12 mre's and I should be good for like.....ever right lol

2020-05-13 16:31:52 UTC

I think it says on the box, 12 mres last forever...

2020-05-13 16:35:56 UTC

And I could stand to lose*a few* pounds.

2020-05-13 16:36:26 UTC

And I think that refers to the amount of time it takes to shit out the contents lol

2020-05-13 16:43:49 UTC

For base camp water filtration options, there's also the "Big Berkey water filtration". Has anyone checked those out?

2020-05-13 16:44:46 UTC

I looked into those a few years ago... They were the shit at one point

2020-05-13 16:47:11 UTC

I can't recommend the Sawyer filters highly enough

2020-05-13 16:47:50 UTC

Yea I have a bunch of iodine tablets from over the years. I figured it wouldnโ€™t hurt to have the lifestraws. Plus I have some kid clean drinking water for a year I guess by ordering the 3 pack ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

2020-05-13 16:48:11 UTC

Iโ€™m ordering sawyer tonight too fuck ittttt

2020-05-13 16:49:46 UTC

The Sawyer mini is essential for individual backpacks, and I've been looking into getting a Big Berkey for base camp

2020-05-13 16:51:34 UTC

Unless something new and cheaper came out, the big berkey should still be the way to go for home/base camp

2020-05-13 16:52:00 UTC

Also for great fire pit/cooking options for base camp, has anyone checked out "Solo Stove"?

2020-05-13 16:54:20 UTC

We have one and it's pretty amazing. Distributes heat nicely and it's semi-portable. There's a smaller camp-size portable option

2020-05-13 16:54:46 UTC

Going to order some of the sawyers tonight
