That would harm minorities

2019-05-15 10:47:31 UTC

@Billcat blasphemy

2019-05-15 10:54:17 UTC

that debate probably belongs in <#513098448640278539>

"Women aren’t made in the military and it’s the truth
They should be nurses and cooks that’s it" @Deleted User pls explain to me why you think women are only able to/should only do those specific jobs

2019-05-15 11:04:14 UTC

Looks like America is busy turning the clock back a solid 30 years in women's rights let's go bois

Fun reminder: You can never ban abortion, only safe, legal abortion

2019-05-15 11:12:02 UTC

Regardless of your view on the law, arguing that something should be legal because people will do it anyways in a less safe manner is a very weak view

2019-05-15 11:13:41 UTC

Also did you take that screenshot? @The Lemon

2019-05-15 11:14:38 UTC

Yes why?

2019-05-15 11:14:59 UTC

And it's not a weak view

2019-05-15 11:15:44 UTC

Because of it, whether you agree with the idea of abortion or not, banning it will only create more suffering and will never get you the desired outcome

2019-05-15 11:16:02 UTC

That's not a weak view that's thinking about the consequences of your actions

2019-05-15 11:18:18 UTC

Just wondering. And, it's a weak view because saying "Well, people will break the law anyway" can basically be used to invalidate every law ever passed. Murder is illegal, but damn, people still kill each other. Drugs such as heroin are illegal, but people are still ODing.

2019-05-15 11:19:37 UTC

A good comparison would be disciplining a child. If the child does something bad, you might threaten to take away, say, a toy. If your child says they'll throw a tantrum do you simply say "Oh, well I don't want that, I won't take your toy away because I don't want to listen to a tantrum"?

2019-05-15 11:22:47 UTC

As for the actual proposed law itself, I can't actually seem to *find* the damn thing. Like, the entire proposed law in writing detailing what will and will not be banned. Just a bunch of second hand sources via NY times or some other brain melting opinion piece

2019-05-15 11:23:25 UTC

There should be no gun laws

2019-05-15 11:23:34 UTC

Cuz bad people will get gun anyway

2019-05-15 11:23:59 UTC

Yea, it's a weak justification that detracts from the actual discussion imo

2019-05-15 11:24:17 UTC

It's especially hilarious watching people compare this to The Handmaid's tale

2019-05-15 11:24:38 UTC

Yoikes

2019-05-15 11:24:56 UTC

I've watched the show and it literally features women (those who are still fertile) being forcefully raped and mutilated in order to bare children. Not at all comparable.

2019-05-15 11:25:07 UTC

It's the feminist equivalent of "drumpf is literally hitler"

2019-05-15 11:25:20 UTC

True

2019-05-15 11:26:08 UTC

What confuses me is so many people seem to have a strong view on this law but nobody has been able to actually send me the proposed legislation. Wouldn't you read it over before forming an opinion?

2019-05-15 11:26:42 UTC

People should

2019-05-15 11:27:15 UTC

But i think its just instagram thots posting their opinions and people just adopt them

2019-05-15 11:27:46 UTC

If I can't find it I'll probably just have to way until Andrew releases a video over at DWR

2019-05-15 11:28:03 UTC

He always has a way of finding these and linking them in his video citations which is nice

2019-05-15 11:33:59 UTC

@Billcat I mean what I know about the law is that it criminalises abortion when a heartbeat is first seen which can be as early as 6 weeks, when most people don't even know they are pregnant. I also know that it treats it similarly to murder or manslaughter meaning that in some cases it could lead to the death penalty

2019-05-15 11:34:52 UTC

I also know that it follows you through states meaning that it's an infringement upon purples rights to free movement between states.

2019-05-15 11:36:04 UTC

Well, see, that's where my problem is. I'm speaking to another person right now and they are claiming the bill begins life begins at conception, so clearly there is a general unknowingness of the specifics of the bill

2019-05-15 11:36:17 UTC

Which is why I'd like to be able to read it before I have any strong views regarding it

2019-05-15 11:36:57 UTC

wait don't trust me on this im really unsure

2019-05-15 12:17:27 UTC

I think we all are unsure

2019-05-15 12:17:54 UTC

But if you find the bill could you link us it

2019-05-15 13:15:00 UTC

The bar should be set based on what the job requires

2019-05-15 13:16:10 UTC

Roe v Wade is fuming rn

2019-05-15 13:22:34 UTC

I disagree women are needed at home and shouldn't be in combat. I know someone who told me he left the military as soon as they started putting women into combat roles because he knew that when a girl dies in the battlefield morale goes down. For some reason it affects men big time.

2019-05-15 13:23:17 UTC

Also the 19th amendment was originally suppose to be for black men having rights and not women. Why? Because they actually fight and die for their rights.

2019-05-15 13:23:30 UTC
