It is a **mental illness.** Does it do any good for someone who is schizophrenic to tell them that their idea of reality is true? No, it isn’t. You would send them to a place where they can be helped medically. People say that trans people are already helped medically with the surgery. They’re not. The transgender suicide rate is 40%, compared to the national average of 6%. People who have the surgery (which is genital mutilation by the way) are 20 times more likely to commit suicide than non-trans people. Being trans hurts people physically and mentally, and we cannot treat this mental illness as if it were a part of reality.
