I think the gap mostly comes down to men being more valuable assets in many positions, and women being really bad at negotiating their wages (and asking for raises)

There are certain industries and positions where this may not be entirely the case, but in general that seems to be the reality.

Yes, women are not as good at negotiating their salary.

Men are better at most jobs, women are better at some. Thus more valuable assets

Negotiating for a fair wage seems dumb, and if two human beings are working just as hard doing the same job, they deserve comparable pay
