2019-12-28 06:08:21 UTC

I'd let them be their own thing, but not claim the other sex

"a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury" - really seems like gender disphoria fits the glove

2019-12-28 06:08:35 UTC

Mental illness

2019-12-28 06:08:40 UTC

Women have unique issues that are due to their biology

A psychological state is considered a mental disorder only if it causes significant distress or disability. Many transgender people do not experience their gender as distressing or disabling, which implies that identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder. For these individuals, the significant problem is finding affordable resources, such as counseling, hormone therapy, medical procedures and the social support necessary to freely express their gender identity and minimize discrimination. Many other obstacles may lead to distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault. These experiences may lead many transgender people to suffer with anxiety, depression or related disorders at higher rates than nontransgender persons.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), people who experience intense, persistent gender incongruence can be given the diagnosis of "gender dysphoria." Some contend that the diagnosis inappropriately pathologizes gender noncongruence and should be eliminated. Others argue that it is essential to retain the diagnosis to ensure access to care. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is under revision and there may be changes to its current classification of intense persistent gender incongruence as "gender identity disorder."

> A psychological state is considered a mental disorder only if it causes significant distress or disability.

2019-12-28 06:09:06 UTC

that's the part the caused the change in the DSM, yes?

2019-12-28 06:09:06 UTC

That is a quote from the American Pyschological Association

2019-12-28 06:09:36 UTC

Lol transgender without significant distress or disability? Define "significant"

2019-12-28 06:09:36 UTC

If you are a man and keep trying to go into the woman's bathroom, that's a disability

2019-12-28 06:09:43 UTC

no shit

2019-12-28 06:09:44 UTC

2019-12-28 06:09:44 UTC

2019-12-28 06:09:53 UTC

2019-12-28 06:10:13 UTC

@Dr.Cosby stfu DAM

2019-12-28 06:10:27 UTC

it was originally classed as a mental illness, but it was the part about "significant distress or disability" that they used as an excuse to remove it

2019-12-28 06:10:34 UTC

The only thing you could remotely consider mentall illness is gender disphroia, which isn’t even mental illness it’s just a term for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable in their gender

2019-12-28 06:10:39 UTC

Just look at the misogyny they promote with the anti-TERF shit

2019-12-28 06:10:42 UTC

I think the terms was "Gender Identity Disorder"

2019-12-28 06:10:42 UTC

I let one live with me for a while btw, was supposed to pay rent and never did. It's okay, I forgave him/her - they really needed my help at the time

2019-12-28 06:11:06 UTC

2019-12-28 06:11:24 UTC

2019-12-28 06:11:30 UTC

But that person was definitely ill lol. Depression, ended up being ostricized by family...

2019-12-28 06:11:32 UTC

They changed it to Gender Dysphoria

2019-12-28 06:11:35 UTC

if one is bad, they're all bad

2019-12-28 06:11:43 UTC

Yeah obviously I'm not using my one example to say they are all the same

2019-12-28 06:11:49 UTC

Not all Transgenders are bad

2019-12-28 06:11:57 UTC

But I haven't seen a single transgender that I wouldn't say is ill in some way
