2020-01-02 15:08:01 UTC

GG @exavior, you just advanced to level 1!

2020-01-02 15:08:50 UTC

They won't invade, but they will bully as many into submission as possible. Philipines having a big nut check right now

2020-01-02 15:08:58 UTC

the Vietnamese won't cave though

2020-01-02 15:09:46 UTC

yeah as i've gotten a little older (23 now) i've moved away from the whole diaspora first, panafrican way of thinking

2020-01-02 15:10:16 UTC

I'm much older, never had it. 38. My family has always been very "American"

2020-01-02 15:10:36 UTC

military service, including spooks, wall street, etc

2020-01-02 15:10:57 UTC

my family was American first, i kind of drifted from that and now have returned back lol

2020-01-02 15:11:28 UTC

we know our history pretty tight, going back to pre Civil war days, records, everything. the epitome of Ados

2020-01-02 15:11:34 UTC

my parents and close family are all military vets, and they also pretty much tried to tell me that we have to put black american needs first; long before it was a conversation

2020-01-02 15:11:38 UTC

that's awesome

2020-01-02 15:11:58 UTC

one of the first 'adult books' I ever read was Benjamin O Davis JRs biography

2020-01-02 15:12:08 UTC

I read that and Malcolm's auto same year

2020-01-02 15:12:14 UTC

the earliest i was able to go back was a plantation in the late 1800s

2020-01-02 15:13:44 UTC

one of the problems is the white underclass has been subject to a psyop for almost 400 years. It all starts after bacon's rebellion

2020-01-02 15:14:08 UTC

That event initiated a formalized process to keep the white underclass from ever having any solidarity with slaves/blacks

2020-01-02 15:14:12 UTC

you're putting me on to a lot, bookmarking all this stuff for later.

2020-01-02 15:14:20 UTC

It basically kicked off the idea of Race in America we hold today

2020-01-02 15:14:59 UTC

It was a shitty goal, but underclass Whites and Blacks fought together in a little uprising over stealing indian land, the royal gov was aghast they organized together

2020-01-02 15:15:07 UTC

1670s

2020-01-02 15:15:58 UTC

in bacon's rebellion?

2020-01-02 15:16:02 UTC

yup

2020-01-02 15:16:52 UTC

The aftermath of it basically lead to the propaganda "as long as we can convince them they are above a Black, they will be on our side"

2020-01-02 15:17:28 UTC

```Indentured servants both black and white joined the frontier rebellion. Seeing them united in a cause alarmed the ruling class. Historians believe the rebellion hastened the hardening of racial lines associated with slavery, as a way for planters and the colony to control some of the poor.[23]```
2020-01-02 15:17:41 UTC
the wikipedia summary. you can find some deep takes on it out there of course
2020-01-02 15:18:09 UTC
yep i just bookmarked it for later
2020-01-02 15:18:40 UTC
thanks!!
2020-01-02 15:19:01 UTC
o7
2020-01-02 15:20:50 UTC
the aftermath of it had a uhge influence on many American noteables that grew up in Virgina in the 18th century, Washington in particular
2020-01-02 15:22:20 UTC
Rice's book seems more focused on the Indian situation, but that is a good read too
2020-01-02 15:24:29 UTC
I believe I first got into it with *Imperfect God* which is a bio about Washington from Henry Wiencek. It only had a few pages on it to set the stage for washington's life, but i was intrigued and got more into it. I've read the Morgan book which I see is referenced often along side the Rice one
2020-01-02 15:28:56 UTC
a book that's been on my to read list appears to discuss it as well https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22587515-the-invention-of-the-white-race-volume-1
2020-01-02 15:29:15 UTC
```When the first Africans arrived in Virginia in 1619, there were no “white” people there. Nor, according to colonial records, would there be for another sixty years. In this seminal two-volume work, The Invention of the White Race, Theodore W. Allen tells the story of how America’s ruling classes created the category of the “white race” as a means of social control. Since that early invention, white privileges have enforced the myth of racial superiority, and that fact has been central to maintaining ruling-class domination over ordinary working people of all colors throughout American history.```

2020-01-02 15:29:24 UTC

ya that's a good one

2020-01-02 15:29:48 UTC

I hae a whole shelf of that, Invented Whiteness, when affirmative action was white ,great stuff lol

2020-01-02 15:31:10 UTC

much of it is great general history as well, up there with *Albion Seed* which gives background onto which Brits settled where and influenced the culture here in the US. Sowell's *White Liberals and Black Rednecks* talks about that a bit

2020-01-02 15:31:52 UTC

stuff on the British in Ireland is great too, they used all sorts of racial language on the Irish

2020-01-02 15:48:12 UTC

wow i've never heard of albion seed, this sounds great
