interesting
i've got to finish unbelievable but the first episode was great
i need a primer on the Bolivia situation & Venezuela
is drump the most pathetic us president to date?
why does it seem like America has grown it's support/acceptance of immigrants yet are dead in the water when it comes to Native Americans & African Americans.
interesting thread
i have been bothered by the growing "we are all immigrants" story
i have absolutely nothing against immigration, i think the ICE camps are disgusting, etc,.
but it's like everyone completely side stepping the existence of native americans and black americans (as in the descendants of US slavery)
yes you are right, candace is a caribbean american
interesting view though, i didn't think about the immigration issue from that angle fully
i think we (black american DOS) need to be treated as a protected group akin to native americans, but also that we & native americans need to form a united front on this issue
i'm gonna look into the workers issue
go to <#508204267631411200>
and end up not benefitting in the end
historically, any black-led movements benefit ALL.
when it's a "POC" thing black people do not benefit
i hate the whole POC thing
black issues are a separate entity
yes i am also in favor of the Black American title over African American, as i don't think that ever made sense
because we don't have outside allegiances or connection, that might be a big reason why
chinese americans are still connected to china
and clearly will prioritize their roots
our roots ARE america
mainly "POC" immigrate for opportunity that would not be possible if we didn't fight for those opportunities to be available.
they all benefitted, while trying to boldly lie about it
i don't know whether to find it humorous or unfortunate that the education system failed + their family lies to them.
yep you're right
we have specific needs as an ethnic group that does not overlap much with other "poc"
but they want to get us to aid in fighting the battle because of how we have seen some success historically and are more likely to speak up
we have historically done too much for other racial minorities
black americans died being anti-vietnam war and have fought for the rights of asian americans & latino americans
i can only think of one prominent asian american who was riding for black rights, which was yuri kochiyama
lol
you should've just posted this https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1548619/
yep
she was a true ally to black rights
which seems to be few and far between
i also feel the whole "oppression olympics" talk is fodder
there's white at the top and black at the bottom. there is nobody treated worse than us.
the "stop making it a competition" stuff is just ignorant. it's not a competition, it's acknowledgement of fact.
yes good observation
and unfortunately a lot are falling for it
oh nice
lol that whole rhetoric is pathetic
or continental africans
i felt uncomfortable when congress (i think it was congress) had caribbean americans discussing hr 40
that's not their business or place
my work isn't related to politics but i've been thinking about running as representative because i don't think enough black reps are black american.
lol look at people like illhan omar
this bot is annoying lol
any links to ann doing that?
we can't just think black, we did that before and it didn't work
i don't follow her much
interesting though
is she a good writer?
gonna have to look into this
we need more people giving specifity
i have a lot of catching up to do politically
about 2 years before the 2016 elections i just looking more into politics. the US undereducates us
fast forward to now, i don't think there's any politicians centered on black american needs.
i like this metaphor i saw some while ago
three people have a bank account: #1 has $10, #2 has $20, #3 has $100
the POC stuffs solution is giving everyone $30 in the name of equality
the same difference in bank account will be there
it's a scam tbh
how do you intend to vote if you don't mind me asking
i'm independent, so same here
at least for my state
yes, i have some books on my desk relating to that
this lipstick alley thread is interesting
glad to see some people catching on
i think it's interesting black latinos opt in and out of political allegiance with black americans
what do you think about the theory that panafricanism won't work because non-american black communities haven't woke up to white supremacy
i think that's what this back to ghana thing is about
yeah as i've gotten a little older (23 now) i've moved away from the whole diaspora first, panafrican way of thinking
my family was American first, i kind of drifted from that and now have returned back lol
my parents and close family are all military vets, and they also pretty much tried to tell me that we have to put black american needs first; long before it was a conversation
that's awesome
the earliest i was able to go back was a plantation in the late 1800s
you're putting me on to a lot, bookmarking all this stuff for later.
in bacon's rebellion?
yep i just bookmarked it for later
also just requested this https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13687294-tales-from-a-revolution
thanks!!
a book that's been on my to read list appears to discuss it as well https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22587515-the-invention-of-the-white-race-volume-1
```When the first Africans arrived in Virginia in 1619, there were no โwhiteโ people there. Nor, according to colonial records, would there be for another sixty years. In this seminal two-volume work, The Invention of the White Race, Theodore W. Allen tells the story of how Americaโs ruling classes created the category of the โwhite raceโ as a means of social control. Since that early invention, white privileges have enforced the myth of racial superiority, and that fact has been central to maintaining ruling-class domination over ordinary working people of all colors throughout American history.```
wow i've never heard of albion seed, this sounds great
i have white liberals and black rednecks
i need to get more informed on foreign policy
thank you for the links!
i had the first one in my to read already, guess i'm in the right direction
thanks brother ๐๐พ
i get really annoyed when they act like slavery was just an incident with no blowback or residual effect
they acknowledge generational trauma and effects within the jewish community
it truly did
i can't attach files for some reason
lol how'd i get the social justice warrior tag
