US

2020-03-09 06:25:02 UTC

I highly doubt that number is right

2020-03-09 06:25:17 UTC

I don't think there is much competition for trash collecting as it is

2020-03-09 06:25:28 UTC

If it was then the us wouldnt be the top richest nation in the world

2020-03-09 06:25:28 UTC

pretty sure custodians are fairly well paid considering the job

2020-03-09 06:25:47 UTC

Probably about 30% are paid minimum

2020-03-09 06:25:48 UTC

it's not $7/hr

2020-03-09 06:27:42 UTC

increasing the pay for collecting trash doesn't make people want to do the job less...

2020-03-09 06:27:42 UTC

Well take a look a full time garbage collector vs a full time working at mcdonalds
mcdonalds full time salary is around 22k a year compared to a garbage collector which is 37k a year
sure many people might not want those disgusting jobs or there even being a massive competition for it. But there is competition for those higher paying jobs

2020-03-09 06:28:33 UTC

Theres alot of competition nowadays for gaming for example

2020-03-09 06:28:38 UTC

It's super fierce

2020-03-09 06:28:40 UTC

And like

2020-03-09 06:28:59 UTC

15 dollars is more than a garbage collector makes and mcdonalds employee would be forced to have a 15 dollar minimum wage. what is stopping people from taking those jobs at mcdonalds opposed to being a garbage collector

2020-03-09 06:29:04 UTC

They will use cheap and dirty working tactics to make as much money as possible

2020-03-09 06:29:13 UTC

37k/year is more than $15/hour...

2020-03-09 06:29:54 UTC

for my area (florida) they get paid around 13 an hour

2020-03-09 06:30:40 UTC

but you gave an example and they already get paid a living wage... so poor example

2020-03-09 06:31:10 UTC

it fits with what I said... cleaning shit and bags of trash is already paid more because nobody wants to do it

2020-03-09 06:31:14 UTC

yes i gave a livable wage of being a garbage collector and i gave a non livable wage being mcdonalds

2020-03-09 06:31:28 UTC

Be a plumber

2020-03-09 06:31:52 UTC

Its such a simple job and yet plumbers get tipped and paid a decent amount

2020-03-09 06:31:56 UTC

Youd be surprised

2020-03-09 06:32:34 UTC

my question is, what stopping people from taking that job at mcdonalds instead of being a garbage collector?

2020-03-09 06:33:33 UTC

Why not, you could get a simpler and more fun job at mcdonalds then being a garbage collector

2020-03-09 06:33:39 UTC

what's stopping them from starting a trash collecting business and making a billion dollars annually

2020-03-09 06:33:55 UTC

having to start off paying their employees 15 dollars an hour

2020-03-09 06:34:01 UTC

the economy isn't perfectly fluid it's complex so anecdotes don't work too well

2020-03-09 06:34:19 UTC

it may force trash collection companies to raise wages but probably not

2020-03-09 06:34:45 UTC

see now you get it people will raise their wages to those unlikeable jobs causing competition causing inflation

2020-03-09 06:35:08 UTC

nah you're not listening it's not basic economics

2020-03-09 06:35:34 UTC

that's a naive view even the economists don't fully know the repercussions

2020-03-09 06:35:42 UTC

that's why I said look at what it actually does

2020-03-09 06:35:46 UTC

okay people im open minded tell me where i went wrong
if im wrong ill admit it

2020-03-09 06:36:12 UTC

maybe i am looking at it through this basis view

2020-03-09 06:36:12 UTC

Your not

2020-03-09 06:37:50 UTC

Its a huge complex system of how many people are in the states, how high are the taxes, what laws and buildings and power electricity ect. Factors into the minimum wage, its not as simple as "oh this one state has minimum wage, why not make ours 15$ an hour!!!"

2020-03-09 06:38:08 UTC

the supply of jobs is limited and so is the worker pool for starters

2020-03-09 06:38:24 UTC

Keep in mind starting a buisiness cannot be the same in different states

2020-03-09 06:38:25 UTC

so everyone isn't going to quit their job to work at mcdonalds

2020-03-09 06:38:35 UTC

I did

2020-03-09 06:38:41 UTC

sure, if they are getting paid more than 15 dollars
