I agree it doesn't make sence that the slave owners did that but that is what they did.

2018-05-31 00:10:52 UTC

Can you show me any papers that prove slavery benefited America?

2018-05-31 00:11:07 UTC

time traveler aussiearyan over here. doesent know what the sun looks like but he knows what american slave owners did

2018-05-31 00:11:15 UTC

Or other proof.

2018-05-31 00:11:44 UTC

well all the things i already said

2018-05-31 00:11:52 UTC

I've shown you papers that detail slavery compared with free labour in the cotton industry.

2018-05-31 00:13:45 UTC

You haven't backed up any off youur clames Arch and I've presented evidence which contradicts your claim so why should I believe you?

2018-05-31 00:13:50 UTC

@Arch-Fiend Henry Ford found that having his workers work less hours was actually better for him in the long term. It meant two things, 1) his workers were better rested, which made them happier and more productive 2) made it so they had time to shop around and buy things. Special his cars. This was counter to the common thought at the time. I mean, paided the same for less work, that is just crazy right? Someone worked to the bone is the most ineffective machine you can have. On top of that, not allowing slaves to really buy their own stuff means everyone suffers as you cannot recover any of the money you spend on them.

2018-05-31 00:15:50 UTC

yeah counter to common thought at the time

2018-05-31 00:15:58 UTC

not to mention slaves wouldent apply the 2nd

2018-05-31 00:16:35 UTC

yeah im not going to read a 73pg long paper either

2018-05-31 00:17:30 UTC

Ok then just don't claim slavery was good for America because that isn't true.

2018-05-31 00:18:27 UTC

You could read this paper it's only 33 pages. http://www.nber.org/chapters/c13134.pdf

Slavery did nothing to help the south. It was just convenient for rich people who could afford them who could then push out their competition. So they got rich. Meanwhile nothing really progressed. The south got rich off the success of the north. When competition is low, there is no pressure to innovate. And given that the rich used slaves to beat out local laborers, they could buy up all the good land, making it hard to have a place to even innovate as they had such small fields, if they even bothered with cotton at all.

2018-05-31 00:21:24 UTC

Very true Grenade, such is the nature of cheep foreign labour.

2018-05-31 00:26:45 UTC

some retarded comments in the comment section of that last one

2018-05-31 00:28:03 UTC

yeah the cotten gin didint actually stop slavery

2018-05-31 00:28:16 UTC

slavery isint the only factor in why america was the fastest growing nation in history, but it is a huge part of it. and the contribution of slaves toward the nation is why african americans had right to be citizines of the united states after the civil war

2018-05-31 00:32:47 UTC

I disagree with you.

2018-05-31 00:32:48 UTC

also would have cost a shit ton of money to send 4 million people to another country at no profit

2018-05-31 00:33:21 UTC

i dont care if you agree with me or not aussie

2018-05-31 00:33:48 UTC

It would have cost less to free all the slaves and send them to Liberia than one year of the civil war alone.

2018-05-31 00:33:53 UTC

your not american and you dont just demonstrate a lack of understanding of my country but a contempt to try and understand

2018-05-31 00:33:59 UTC

for that your not worth my time anymore

2018-05-31 00:34:58 UTC

Do you know what the Amercian colonization society was?

2018-05-31 00:35:35 UTC

👌🏿

2018-05-31 00:41:09 UTC

Since you don't I'll tell you. It was a society which wanted to free the black slaves and send them to Liberia which they helped establish. One of their most famous member was James Monroe who was such an influential member that the capital of Liberia to this day is called monrovia after him. There were many people who saw that blacks and whites are different and that it was a back idea for blacks to stay in America insted of helping the free blacks build their own country. Som things are more important then profit like having a harmonious couuntry. https://www.britannica.com/topic/American-Colonization-Society

2018-05-31 00:42:39 UTC

Even Lincoln though blacks should live with their own people in Africa.

2018-05-31 00:42:43 UTC

yeah i know about that dumb shit

2018-05-31 00:43:21 UTC

i didint spend the last 2 hours arguing with you about why that shouldent happen without knowing about it

2018-05-31 00:43:41 UTC

How is it dumb? They want what's best for their country and are helping the blacks at the same time it's a win, win situlation.

2018-05-31 00:44:24 UTC

@Arch-Fiend I will compromise on the previous discussion. slave owners **profited** off the back of slave labor. Which to them, was beneficial. However, it is debatable that it was to the south's overall benefit.

2018-05-31 00:45:03 UTC

it was to the souths overall benefit unless you want to argue subjectively

2018-05-31 00:45:39 UTC

there were a lot of poor southerners who would probably beg to differ

2018-05-31 00:45:44 UTC

it did lead to less population due to less land being avalible for living space, the best land being utilized for large plantations
