Whats "lacks an inner voice"?

2018-10-14 20:46:52 UTC

I thought its a mental illness too when you have someone "in your head"

2018-10-14 20:51:13 UTC

I heard something but Im not sure how its possible

2018-10-14 20:51:30 UTC

apparently some people dont think "with words"

2018-10-14 20:51:30 UTC

@GingaBomber when you think of something, do you say it in your head?

2018-10-14 20:51:46 UTC

if you do, you have an inner voice

2018-10-14 20:51:46 UTC

Yeah.

2018-10-14 20:51:52 UTC

that's all that is

2018-10-14 20:51:53 UTC

But i didnt think it was called that

2018-10-14 20:52:07 UTC

It's entirely distinct from schizophrenia

2018-10-14 20:52:18 UTC

So... people who dont rehearse it mentally before speaking or something?

2018-10-14 20:52:28 UTC

cos if you're schizo, there's a second one that you don't control

2018-10-14 20:53:06 UTC

Dunno, never discussed it IRL

2018-10-14 20:53:17 UTC

nor am I aware of anyone who doesn't have it

2018-10-14 20:53:31 UTC

Maybe they do just not aware

2018-10-14 20:53:35 UTC

but apparently there's people that just don't think in words at all

2018-10-14 20:53:41 UTC

Like how your eyes automatically ignore your nose

2018-10-14 20:54:10 UTC

no they don't, I can see it

2018-10-14 20:54:45 UTC

you're just not looking at it in normal 'ahead' vision right?

2018-10-14 20:54:59 UTC

Its something you dont notice until someone points it out though

2018-10-14 20:56:35 UTC

I have aphantasia and I only found out a few years ago, which means it's basically impossible for me to visualize something, I think in words and concepts but can't think in images.

2018-10-14 20:56:56 UTC

I imagine it would be the same for someone who thinks in concepts and images but doesn't have an inner voice

2018-10-14 20:57:35 UTC

You still have image recognition though, right?

2018-10-14 20:57:49 UTC

Like, if you've seen something you can tell it apart from other stuff

2018-10-14 20:59:03 UTC

yeah, I can recognize people, places, etc. by their looks

2018-10-14 20:59:57 UTC

Right, that's similar for me I guess, I can describe what something looks like fine, even in detail, but if I try to visualize it it's all fuzzy and shit
