Philosophy is measured more in terms of strength, than in terms of right or wrong - as science is. And a solid argument contains both science AND philosophy, knowledge AND wisdom.
The reason a scientist would be a 'philosopher first', would be because that knowledge is useless without the wisdom to utilize it, and the wisdom to seek knowledge would be the driving force behind scientific endeavor.
By all means, you can point out where you disagree with that - You might convince me that Science is a Philosophy, but I believe the evidence that Philosophy is a Science is weak to non-existent. (Also, the definitions I defaulted to were from from a centuries-standing British University)
(Since Tim started using the Oxford English Dictionary for his definitions, I've started using that as my standard as well, even if I may disagree with them on commas and the spelling of the word Pheonix.)
They can't even spell aluminum right
I have had to resort to using old physical dictionaries to look stuff up definitions for things like this.
You mean Aluminium
I prefer that pronunciation, actually.
It flows easier.
I have to add a pause at the end of saying Aluminum
No expects you to actatually throw a book at them
Ignore the scene before the relevant quote
Requires previous scenes to make sense.
Also watch the whole thing. Scroobius Pip is awesome.
Sat in a van with a co-worker and his Daughter while waiting for the others to show up for a team building event, the duaghter got snarky so I warned her... He told me to do it. She didn't think i would, and then I pegged her in the face with a pocket sized note book.
Was the co-worker okay with it afterwards? 😛
He was laughing, he had seen the book in my hand before as well
i think they should start teaching philisophy in the us and canada
obligatory for middle and high school
They don't even teach the things they teach effectively. There's not much worse than poor, self-certain philosophy.
philisophy widens the perception of the young ones
they will understand science an the world better
Not if the teacher's just using the opportunity to indoctrinate them into their own philosophy.
Which is absolutely likely to happen.
It happens in University all the time.
education in the us and canada has failed
Agreed.
ive heard that even the open education in mexico has higher standards
There are people in my own generation that think that Socialism might actually work.
Lets be honest, the powers that be don't want to teach critical thinking skills to the young. They want students to be spoon fed what to think
^ ^ ^
yet, the powers that be import brains from places where they still teach those skills
It's far more valuable, and far easier to work with, for a population to just agree with the loudest voice.
cookie cutter kids.
colleges are now like jungle gyms
mental jungle gyms
like climb where ever
be what ever, doesnt matter if is real or not theres foam everywhere
I use to have the job of telling those that outrank me when they are full of shit... I was considered a critical staff member in the army
Well, for starters, College isn't about learning to think for yourself
