If I buy a Honda it's not necessarily because I'm keen on the culture, I just wanted a cheap car
i mean, obviously
is exporting art not exporting culture?
When you see people adopting the values and aesthetic preferences you have, that's more grounded
if a jap buys mcdonalds it's not because they want to be americanu, they just want some food
McDonalds also serves regional food too
are ex-pats just culture exports of another country?
they do
just like chinese food here has a lot of shit that they don't have in china
The arts is different because the arts are inherently reflective of the culture they're from, industry is about appealing to a mass audience so a strong national identity is only good for touristic appeal
You can export cultural signifiers, yeah, but the export of culture itself is based around behavior and attitude
so ex-pats and duel citizens are cultural exports
new insult for immigrates
"go home you culture export"
In a sense, but the expectation is that they assimilate to an extent
Yeah, integration into a culture is paramount
You shouldn't really be going to another country to export your culture
It's rude
Chinese food in the US did not originate in china, but it did originate from Chinese immigrates, designed for local tastes
Sure
its not american culture thats taking over the world, its consumer culture of the post industrial revolution
The expansion of products and ideas, built around the same core cultural values
specifically for around things like Christmas, where everywhere would be closed but the Chinese restaurants
Rather than the product itself
very capitalist/american of them
Or the simple extension of a corporate chain
they saw a whole in the market and filled it to great success
america didint invent capitalism
Nobody said it did
America *was* the true realization of western liberal values
capitalism was a process that developted out of the middle ages through the rise of the merchent class
That's its cultural foundation
@Arch-Fiend the /american was because the american dream: start your own business and be successful. Change the hand life dealt you.
not because we invented capitalism
yeah the american dream was also the european dream
Yes, but Europe was generally feudal, not free
was, now apparently its be a slave state to germany
Bow to your King who bows to the Pope who bows to God
during this AMERICAN dream thing europe was post feudal
It was still hierarchical
