5000 years of histiory

2018-10-28 03:21:11 UTC

That wouldn't happen under a one party state.

2018-10-28 03:21:40 UTC

Look at how much of a mess they were in the 1920's

2018-10-28 03:21:47 UTC

Warlords

2018-10-28 03:21:50 UTC

Actually, with such a large country, I am more surprised that their system is not more federalistic in nature.

2018-10-28 03:22:03 UTC

the Chinese themselves don;t want a return of that

2018-10-28 03:22:15 UTC

I know that there are different levels of government, though.

2018-10-28 03:24:04 UTC

Yes, and some parallel between the Party and the state

2018-10-28 03:33:42 UTC

Anyway, China is perhaps where I disagree the most the the Democrats in international affairs. It's where I hoped Trump would get it right. Handle China transactionally and don't meddle in internal affairs. Hold them accountable outside their borders.

2018-10-28 03:34:09 UTC

Unfortunately we ended up in a trade war 😕

2018-10-28 03:34:44 UTC

I’m surprised the trade war isn’t getting much coverage

2018-10-28 03:35:52 UTC

It's having an impact but it's rather diluted by the strength of the overall economy. I will say if there was a time for a trade war by the US now is likely the time

2018-10-28 03:36:26 UTC

Still I'm not sure either the President or the American people are prepared for the downside. I don't see this as being a painless victory.

2018-10-28 03:36:45 UTC

The US has not stuck to a fight all the way to victory since WWII

2018-10-28 03:37:09 UTC

It'll be interesting to see if the American people are willing to be personally inconvenienced and stick it through

2018-10-28 03:38:26 UTC

If it happens, and if we actually get the win we defined was the goal at the start of the conflict and not some bs that Trump calls a win but isn't, then I'll agree that Pres Trump is on the upper end of American Presidents

2018-10-28 03:38:46 UTC

That would be an amazing landing to stick

2018-10-28 03:39:37 UTC

So far the jury is still very much out

2018-10-28 03:39:41 UTC

I'm not sure if the trade war is so unjustified.

2018-10-28 03:40:11 UTC

I'm not saying it is or is not justified. China has been abusing their WTO privileges.

2018-10-28 03:40:11 UTC

China has received many trade benefits that were meant for 3d/2nd world countries. As their economy matured, it might be justified to change that balance.

2018-10-28 03:40:18 UTC

Right.

2018-10-28 03:40:21 UTC

Agreed

2018-10-28 03:40:37 UTC

That said, wars have casualties

2018-10-28 03:40:43 UTC

Actually, it might even turn out for the better for Chinese.

2018-10-28 03:41:08 UTC

It might. I think China, even under fascism, would be better off working collaboratively with the world

2018-10-28 03:41:19 UTC

If they have pressures to focus on domestic markets, both labor and living conditions might improve, in order to stimulate such a demand.

No?

2018-10-28 03:41:32 UTC

Agreed

2018-10-28 03:41:39 UTC

It would follow patterns that were not entirely dissimilar in the west.

2018-10-28 03:41:43 UTC

I'm just not sure if that is how it'll work out

2018-10-28 03:41:50 UTC

a trade war is an attempt to damage another countries economy at a faster pace than your own. but there is no mistake that you are hurting your own economy

2018-10-28 03:42:00 UTC

It all depends on whether the American public will tolerate the pain

2018-10-28 03:43:14 UTC

Hmm, like chemotherapy

2018-10-28 03:43:25 UTC

Do you kill the cancer before you kill yourself

2018-10-28 03:46:14 UTC

I guess we'll see.
Metals are the basis for heavy industry. So the side effect of the tarrifs is we get our own aluminum and steel production back
And we stave off globalist control over basic materials, and make China be more careful in some of their policies.
If they make us unhappy, we might be even tougher at the trade negotiation table.
It's genius.

2018-10-28 03:46:47 UTC

We'll see

2018-10-28 03:47:11 UTC

Things will get more expensive, likely more quickly than salaries

2018-10-28 03:50:31 UTC

That's what is damaging.

2018-10-28 03:50:39 UTC

Boo hoo.
So our already over self pleasuring civilization gets slightly less ikea furniture, and designer sneakers.
But our nation's ability to build things for ourselves gets stronger.
I think that's a decent trade off.

2018-10-28 03:51:19 UTC

Possibly

2018-10-28 03:51:27 UTC

There are some things we are just not in a good position to build ourselves
