What part of that undermines my "hopes"?
Or was that aimed elsewhere?
A global government is undesirable
Too much compromise in policy would have to be achieved in order for it to work, and such compromises would make for a sub-par system.
"pre League of Nations climate" Um, so WWI or WWII?
Before the Great War.
Meaning lots of wars
The post WWII world has been the most conflict free in history
Yes
The current system the West is in was put in place in fear of Soviet aggression.
The United States funded the current world order to ensure peace and stability and to limit Soviet expansion.
Not initially
No, early on it was to help with reconstruction.
Exactly. And to avoid another German War.
Or perhaps more accurately, European War
I wasn't talking about a global government, I was talking about a nation-equivalent
The principles are the important part, not the size of the society
Once the EU falls when an inevitable recession hits the United States should return to a policy of isolationism and concern ourselves with North and South American politics.
We can lend-lease to former EU ally states but we shouldn't become belligerents in foreign wars unless there is a global threat again like the Nazis or Soviets.
I would also cut ties with China and watch as their entire economy falls apart while moving industry back home and to other American nations.
And in total exports make up approximately 40% of their GDP.
Tbh I wouldn't mind the commonwealth becoming a proper trading bloc, as a leaf
I agree
Rescue the UK from Europe
The entire anglosphere would benefit from increased solidarity.
If anything the Commonwealth is slipping more apart.
When QEII passes, Australia and probably Canada will take the opportunity to become republics
Australia is just waiting for the grand ol' dame to pass since they don't want to do it to her.
Charles on the other hand...
Are...are Canada and Australia not already republics?
No. They still look to the British Crown as their head of state
They don't have an elected head of state, just a prime minister just like Britain.
When the PM of Canada, Australia, or NZ visit, they get only 19 guns
Does that preclude them from being republics?
I guess technically, yeah.
I think Canada and Australia should become their own sovereign entities, but that the commonwealth should ultimately stick together
granted I also want the UK to go back to its old values and stop being a fucked up proto-Orwellian shithole, and I want Canadians to have some semblance of national pride. I know my wants are out there
I demand increased royal authority over the Commonwealth.
And the reintegration of released colonies.
what does "go back to its old values" mean, when talking about the UK?
slave trade and aggressive colonisation with the occasional genocide? isolationism? weird huge dresses? inbreeding? the UK has a long and varied history and its norms have changed throughout
