Ironic

2019-08-07 22:29:26 UTC

Essentially a dictatorship.

2019-08-07 22:29:34 UTC

Because Turkey is sliding towards theocracy

2019-08-07 22:29:41 UTC

I know. What a shame.

2019-08-07 22:29:49 UTC

Ataturk would be rolling in his grave.

2019-08-07 22:30:18 UTC

How can you celebrate him but also completely reject his model for your nation?

2019-08-07 22:30:29 UTC

That's just hypocrisy

2019-08-07 22:30:54 UTC

Do you go to casinos too btw, and use last week's jackpot winner as evidence that it's a smart thing to do?

2019-08-07 22:33:29 UTC

@Tool What do you mean model?

2019-08-07 22:33:34 UTC

Like I said, there have been "good" monarchs too. Nah man, I think you're trying to play Devil's Advocate here - and while I like to do that too (and I believe there are exceptions to most things that are worth pondering) - I think it's a bit fruitless in certain cases

2019-08-07 22:34:02 UTC

Secular state @Deleted User

2019-08-07 22:34:08 UTC

@Dr.Cosby I'm going off how it's been practiced. Usually benevolent dictatorships or nationalist dictators that care about their country are better than democracies.

2019-08-07 22:34:31 UTC

With less choice

2019-08-07 22:34:34 UTC

@Tool Okay? I want that too. Or I want to remove religion and make the populace focus on racial unity or their nation.

2019-08-07 22:34:54 UTC

I don't get how fascism contradicts that.

2019-08-07 22:34:55 UTC

Hm? I was talking about Turkey

2019-08-07 22:34:57 UTC

"Usually benevolent dictatorships or nationalist dictators that care about their country are better than democracies." huge citation needed here

2019-08-07 22:35:13 UTC

And how Turkey is turning its back on that

2019-08-07 22:35:22 UTC

Yeah it's a shame. @Tool

2019-08-07 22:35:23 UTC

But celebrates ataturk anyway

2019-08-07 22:35:28 UTC

Because reasons

2019-08-07 22:35:29 UTC

You went from bringing up two examples (both not very good for your point IMO) to making a sweeping statement like that

2019-08-07 22:35:44 UTC

@Dr.Cosby Hm. I'll make the case of Rwanda and Qatar then. They are both socially authoritarian

2019-08-07 22:36:18 UTC

@Tool They celeberate ataturk because they're nationalist. They put nation above religion.

2019-08-07 22:36:47 UTC

.... For now

2019-08-07 22:37:24 UTC

Haha

2019-08-07 22:37:43 UTC

So today on Fascism Success Stories we also have Rwanda and Qatar?

2019-08-07 22:37:49 UTC

Lolol

2019-08-07 22:38:00 UTC

@Dr.Cosby Not fascism

2019-08-07 22:38:08 UTC

But authoritarian/dictatorship

2019-08-07 22:38:16 UTC

I also don't know enough about their governments to say for sure, but they don't look all that fascist to me too

2019-08-07 22:38:17 UTC

Ah okay

2019-08-07 22:38:46 UTC

My case for fascism would be Gaddafi, Hussein and maybe Ayub Khan. He was traditionally right but had secular policies.

2019-08-07 22:38:52 UTC

But secular is excluded from this

2019-08-07 22:38:54 UTC

Hussein?

2019-08-07 22:38:57 UTC

Not Saddam, surely?

2019-08-07 22:39:00 UTC

Saddam Hussein

2019-08-07 22:39:12 UTC

Okay, let's talk about Iraq during his reign.

2019-08-07 22:39:18 UTC

Lol you think he was good? Come on mate...

2019-08-07 22:39:40 UTC

In improving his country, definitely. Ba'athism is a solid ideology but I only take some of it.
