's why I'm a fan of monarchies
When you go as reward
At least, ones in which the monarch has some form of actual political power, rather than being a completely ceremonial figurehead.
And have lots of perks and almost no responsibility
yep. crony as fuck
With beeing there for life
I'd personally have the Commons elected proportionally and keep the districts, be it with Single Transferrable Vote, for the Lords
House of Lords is basically the equivalent of the US senate.
You need someone in the position of head of state.
Also it has become apparent that you can buy lordship with party donations
That's what monarchies are good for. Raised from birth to be a head of state.
Ryecast no it isnt
I mean from a political structure stance
Yeah kind off
the whole two houses thing
frankly, the Senate needs tweaking too.
Term limits!
I don't agree on temr limits if you are elected.
Term limits, maybe. Age limits, defnitely. Enforced average national wage payment, absolutely.
Its complicated with wages but i would be for more transparency
I don't agree with that either. You want the ppl that are making desition for your country to be looked after. Less likely to take back handers.
Complete lack of privacy in their communications, also yes.
Same for their bank accounts.
British politics need much more transparency imo
their pay is fuck all in a big ship.
Being a member of government should not be a reward, it should be something people don't want to become for any reason other than serving.
Especialy when public money are involved
The core problem with term limits is that it creates a political class
Incumbency doesn't just happen because someone's doing a good job
I'd also institute Single Transferrable Vote, if people want to keep the districts.
It happens in large part due to apathy.
And the lack of viable third parties is due to the fact that the first-past-the-post voting system used actively works against the growth of said third parties.
Mmhmm
The way it works, not voting for a republican or democrat is essentially a vote for the other party
Yep
Exactly.
And actually swapping parties is two votes for that party.
Two party system sucks
The only way a third party can be viable is if they manage to, on their very first go, manage to win.
it *can* happen
but yeah
