I do get the angle they are coming from, the emotional "look at these people who have a real possibility of not getting medical attention" but it ignores the reality that people always fall through the cracks

Abortion is legal here since I can remember, and the few girls I know that have had one didn't do so lightly even on the non moral side, it's only like 300 to 500 bucks so the cost isn't outrageous.. But the damage done to their baby factory is horrendous, decent chance they will be unable to have kids in the future, at best 3 abortions and no more babies ever, I think it significantly raises the chance of future babies being retarded as well. So purely on the self effect most women have a huge choice.

As a conservative I think I'm supposed to be anti abortion, but I always argue for pro abortion, and often change minds on the fact that abortion will happen legal or not, and it is much better to have women get educated in an abortion clinic and most probably change their mind than to have no abortion clinic and girls sliding down the steps on their stomach without a second thought because they don't know better and society doesn't talk about it.
I mean their will always be some dude with a coat hanger folder out, and that has to be the worst option. Or if some girl tried to drink and take drugs to have a miscarriage and it doesn't work then that's one more baby antifa or baby sjw in the world, nobody can argue that is better than no life at all

John Oliver did a segment talking about how you can buy people's long standing medical debts for like pennies on the dollar and then just forgive the debt. Why not combined these two endeavors?

i do believe there are enough people willing to part with more than enough money to cover everyone's medical bills, or help them get out of poverty. the problem is not of resources, but of logistics.

its getting the people with the funds matched up with the people who have needs.

The reason it's cheap is because it's a shitty investment.

But medical bills are fucking high

its cheap because the debt has been outstanding for so long it has already been written off as a loss

so other companies buy it for cheap, then they only need to recover a small part of the debt.

so the idea goes like this: a person owes 10000 is debt. The original company it was owed to was only able to collect so much before they said "fuck it, not worth it." So they sell it off to another company for like 1000 bucks. That new company can technically go after the person who owes the debt for the full amount, but they play psychology and go "well, maybe we can get this down to like 5000 for you, can you pay that." And maybe they only get 2000. The original company gets a small amount of cash right then for something that they basically wrote off, so its a little less of a loss, and the buying company gets some money for basically doing nothing but pestering someone.

i think there is actually a charity that does this for medical bills.

but combined the two and you have a nice safety new that doesn't require the government, and you could make money. off it.

take donations, offer to cover current debt and buy out old debt.
