Yeah I’m pretty sure the Romans did it.

2019-02-18 00:05:15 UTC

i think it was the Neo-Babylonians that destroyed it the first time

2019-02-18 00:05:20 UTC

when they took over

2019-02-18 00:05:26 UTC

then the Jews rebuilt it when they came back from exile

2019-02-18 00:05:45 UTC

But yeah God is generally viewed as a violent warrior in the Old Testament.

2019-02-18 00:06:04 UTC

Not entirely accurate though. But it’s understandable.

2019-02-18 00:06:20 UTC

yeah, stuff just constantly happened that invoked divine anger

2019-02-18 00:06:32 UTC

Yeah exactly.

2019-02-18 00:06:45 UTC

but i think the difference in tone also reflects major differences in Christianity and Judaism

2019-02-18 00:06:56 UTC

to me Judaism is kind of a bitter religion

2019-02-18 00:07:07 UTC

it does celebrate life and stuff, but there's something bitter about it

2019-02-18 00:07:09 UTC

God saving different people and sparing people is ignored to make the statement he was a violent douche.

2019-02-18 00:07:51 UTC

but it might also be because of how they reject the Messiah despite making Himself known, because he didn't do exactly as they thought he would

2019-02-18 00:07:58 UTC

All the violence you know happened in Exodus, Judges, Kings, and Joshua.

2019-02-18 00:08:11 UTC

and Genesis

2019-02-18 00:08:23 UTC

Yeah I knew I had left a couple out.

2019-02-18 00:08:26 UTC

lol

2019-02-18 00:08:27 UTC

lol 😂

2019-02-18 00:09:26 UTC

But you’re talking like 10 books out of 30+ being violent. And even those books have lots of God filled love.

2019-02-18 00:09:46 UTC

yes

2019-02-18 00:10:26 UTC

i don't view him as some merciless deity that just acts out His anger, i am just pointing out the larger prevalence of God's anger in the Old Testament lol

2019-02-18 00:10:48 UTC

because in the NT, it is seemingly reserved until the End Times, then everything comes down

2019-02-18 00:11:20 UTC

it is cringy whenever i see atheists who are like xd xd haha God sounds like an asshole xd Satan is the real good guy

2019-02-18 00:13:20 UTC

In my ethics calls the teacher mentioned how compared to Greek ethics where it revolved around the happiness individual and the Polus Hebrew ethics revolved around adhering to the covenant and eternal devotion to God for freeing them

2019-02-18 00:14:29 UTC

yes

2019-02-18 00:14:43 UTC

there is a major legalistic emphasis on the covenant and how jewish culture revolves around it

2019-02-18 00:20:41 UTC

Remember that the NT is also a lot shorter chronologically

2019-02-18 00:20:56 UTC

OT covers thousands of years. NT covers a few.

2019-02-18 00:22:03 UTC

So I think God isn't less pissed off in the NT, or that he's always pissed off in the OT, just that if he only gets pissed off once a century on average, then statistically there may not be any case in the NT of God getting mad

2019-02-18 00:22:19 UTC

yes, that is true

2019-02-18 00:55:32 UTC
