Israel getting hit with rockets is basically a daily occurrence. What is abnormal is the volume and concentration of rocket fire. 100+ rockets and mortars all fired in a short time all at the same rough area was enough to saturate Israeli C-RAM, which is why they actually hit stuff this time.
It just gives israel a reason to go back into palestine
Hamas is in control now and they will escalate the conflict because its in their intrest to do so
The goal is to provke a retaliatory strike which kills civilians. Thus israel becomes more hated internationally plus hamas gains new followers
