So do job interviews my dude

2018-11-22 16:32:19 UTC

Ergo job interviews are all just affirmative action

2018-11-22 16:32:20 UTC

i'm not saying it's worng!!!!!!!

2018-11-22 16:32:36 UTC

No, you're overly broadening affirmative action to the point of uselessness

2018-11-22 16:32:43 UTC

???

2018-11-22 16:33:03 UTC

```Poppy RiderToday at 16:31
Affirmative action tkaes into account where/who/what you are when considering what you are worth. Tell me how the ecetoral collage is different.```
2018-11-22 16:33:10 UTC
k
2018-11-22 16:33:14 UTC
It's like if I said I'm running a marathon right now, because a marathon is going from A to B, and B is far away
But I'm in a car
2018-11-22 16:33:36 UTC
All interviews take into account who/what/where you are
2018-11-22 16:33:42 UTC
*all of them*
2018-11-22 16:34:39 UTC
Who do you need to be? Someone who works well with others, fits with the company
What do you need to be? Someone trained to do the job to a sufficient level, or who can learn quickly enough
Where do you have to be? Close enough to get to work
2018-11-22 16:35:01 UTC
All job interviews are performed on the basis of discrimination. Discriminating between candidates is the *point*
2018-11-22 16:35:27 UTC
What about entrence to collage?
2018-11-22 16:35:29 UTC
Affirmative action is discrimination based on arbitrary characteristics *specifically*, with the goal of achieving quotas
2018-11-22 16:35:39 UTC
Same shit my dude
2018-11-22 16:35:57 UTC
@IT's only worng when it's being used in a way I don;t liike.@
2018-11-22 16:36:11 UTC
Even without affirmative action
Is this person doing well in school?
Do they have money?
Can they get here?
2018-11-22 16:36:27 UTC
No, lol, you just don't seem to know what Affirmative Action actually is
2018-11-22 16:36:31 UTC
Or why people are opposed to it
2018-11-22 16:36:39 UTC
I didn't argue that it is worng or right, where it helps or not.
2018-11-22 16:36:54 UTC
All admission is discrimination. Affirmative action is not merely discrimination
2018-11-22 16:37:12 UTC
If you cannot accept this then there's no point in discussing further because it's the entire basis of the concept
2018-11-22 16:38:15 UTC
As a person from Cali my vote to decide who runs my country is not worth the same as someone from the state over. Just like as an asian my score on a test is not weighed the same when it come to getting in to collage.
2018-11-22 16:39:03 UTC
Do you accept the premise or not?
2018-11-22 16:41:23 UTC
The Senate and the Electoral College are not affirmative action
2018-11-22 16:41:42 UTC
@Beemann I know what AA is, I know why it is used. I'm not arguing if it is a good thing or not. I'm say that a repetitive democracy and the electoral collage work on thsame lines as
2018-11-22 16:41:44 UTC
AA
2018-11-22 16:42:00 UTC
But I must say I am highly amused by the multiple references above to the "tranny of the majority" :p
2018-11-22 16:42:38 UTC
Best word choice error ever
2018-11-22 16:42:46 UTC
Electoral college works as an equalizer for the states.
In your proposed system, CA & NY following your reasoning, would get affirmative action as in they will vote for their interests and by sheer fact of population concentration end up dictating politics to the entire country.
In effect, their voting power will nullify whatever the rest of the country votes for.
Also poppy, almost every western country works with a representative democracy.
Switzerland being one of the very few outliers.
2018-11-22 16:43:58 UTC
``` CA & NY following your reasoning, would get affirmative action```
Nope. I'm not talking about staes. I'm talking about ppl being worth the same. This is where you lot are getting confused.

2018-11-22 16:44:22 UTC

You are all one country.

2018-11-22 16:44:25 UTC

^that is where you are not understanding the topic at hand

2018-11-22 16:44:30 UTC

no its a federal state poppy

2018-11-22 16:44:31 UTC

Why is one persons vote worth more?

2018-11-22 16:44:35 UTC

goddamnit

2018-11-22 16:44:57 UTC

a federal state =/= as a monarchy country for example

2018-11-22 16:44:59 UTC

The only relevance I see with the consistency of democrat wins in the overall popular vote is that it serves as a reminder that the legitimacy of our government derives from the people

2018-11-22 16:45:59 UTC

If those voters' will is confounded consistently we risk entering a crisis of confidence in the system

2018-11-22 16:46:29 UTC

Try and imagin your country was a school and who gets in is not based on their score but their score plus bonus points for being from a perticula place.

2018-11-22 16:46:47 UTC

>try to imagine your federal union of states wasn't a federal union of states
