the royal family is probably the best thing the uk has right now, out of all your governmental instatutions your monarchy has the greatest degree of solidarity in caring for your nation, most others are beyond half tainted by money and power and only care about the country in so far as its the one that pays their bills and the one they can sell at the highest bidder

frankly i dont even know how brexit managed to happen except that the majority of government thought it had no chance to threaten the status quo and would strengthen european solidarity through setting president

so the last 3 years has basicly been trying to damage control, the majority of british government sees brexit as a mistake not as an idea of something that would be bad for britton but a mistake in being something they let happen

I feel like elected officials should be required to say something like "I love my country" because I get the feeling that a lot of them wouldn't say it

ive talked to people in the uk who veiw the government they currently have as the enemy of the nation

and i dont think they are wrong

the enemy of the united states is our media right now and certain corporate interests that have infected the government, but the uk government is almost inconsulible at this point, the system at this point probably can not be fixed internally

yeah, the UK is looking in poor shape and it hurts to see it.

I may be american, but I never really bought into the looking down on the UK thing some people have as a relic of the war for independence

I also have a deep love of brittish humor, so it hurts to see it being turned into a hate crime

Most Americans don't feel real animosity to Britain in my experiences, it is more of a friendly rivalry
