@DrYuriMom Grenade's point is that activists flout the rules when convenient. There's whole books written and studied in the various grievance studies departments about how to bend or break the rules and get away with it to get the change you want. I can pull up a couple if you want. Run the corruption up high enough and you can get away with basically anything.

2018-11-12 02:06:22 UTC

I trust

2018-11-12 02:06:24 UTC

This is why i don't trust the government and think the only good government is one fighting itself.

2018-11-12 02:06:46 UTC

@DrYuriMom I wish I could have that much faith in people. I've seen too much.

2018-11-12 02:06:54 UTC

Because the people who want to be in government, rarely are the people you want in government. And you, the people, are the enemy of the government.

2018-11-12 02:07:01 UTC

Only you can take away their power

2018-11-12 02:07:05 UTC

I do like split government

2018-11-12 02:07:21 UTC

If they are fighting themselves, they are not fighting you.

2018-11-12 02:07:35 UTC

high conscientiousness and high agreeableness perhaps? that would make sense given what i've seen of your personality.

2018-11-12 02:07:53 UTC

If I had my way we'd never have both sides of congress and the presidency in the same party hands

2018-11-12 02:08:24 UTC

You'd subvert the will of the people?

2018-11-12 02:08:27 UTC

I am open to compromise but I do have core principles

2018-11-12 02:08:31 UTC

But it's also why I want it smaller. Because if it's fighting itself, nothing gets done. So when they do get around to doing something once and a while. If it ends up being bad, it will take forever to get undone and do damage all the while

2018-11-12 02:08:45 UTC

No, Bookworm. I'm just saying what I';m happiest with.

2018-11-12 02:08:47 UTC

that is the ideal situation when the laws in place are functioning roughly OK. when things are working deadlock is good as it prevents people from breaking what ain't broke.

2018-11-12 02:08:53 UTC

but *shit's broke yo*

2018-11-12 02:08:55 UTC

@Bookworm the will of the people got hilter elected remember

2018-11-12 02:09:17 UTC

I'm aware. I just thought Cat supported democracy as an ideal.

2018-11-12 02:09:20 UTC

I'm glad to hear otherwise.

2018-11-12 02:09:22 UTC

I do

2018-11-12 02:09:31 UTC

We are not a democracy, we are a republic.

2018-11-12 02:09:33 UTC

Hitler wasn't elected. He was appointed after losing the election and then seized power.

2018-11-12 02:09:35 UTC

Exactly

2018-11-12 02:09:43 UTC

Technically the will of the people was Hillary

2018-11-12 02:09:45 UTC

Actually, Hitler was elected

2018-11-12 02:09:57 UTC

But I agree we are a republic

2018-11-12 02:10:06 UTC

The German system is a bit different too. "elected" is slightly different than it is here.

2018-11-12 02:10:18 UTC

Yes, but you're saying that between the will of the people, and your own will, you would choose your own given the choice.

2018-11-12 02:10:25 UTC

Which I'm happy to hear, that's a generally healthy outlook.

2018-11-12 02:10:31 UTC

Well it was like the like party was elected then he was appointed by them right?

2018-11-12 02:10:55 UTC

I tend to think the US as a federation of republics governed as a republic. That's what the 10th amendment is for.

2018-11-12 02:11:02 UTC

The senate gives smaller states disproportional power. The senate is also long-lived. The president is elected by electors which themselves give smaller states disproportional power. The House is proportional to population and in theory turns over quickly

2018-11-12 02:11:06 UTC

English systems have always emphasized local governance.

2018-11-12 02:11:10 UTC

if two wolves and a lamb are voting on what to have for dinner, it's not rational for the lamb to submit to being eaten regardless of the result of the vote.

2018-11-12 02:11:16 UTC

And yes, I am a big fan of the 10th

2018-11-12 02:11:36 UTC

The senate is to prevent the large states from domineering over the politics of the local states by the means of the federal government.

2018-11-12 02:11:48 UTC

I think we can all agree that all non-enumerated rights are best left in the hands of the state.

2018-11-12 02:11:59 UTC

Otherwise, the most populous states could simply overrule the laws of the smaller states.

2018-11-12 02:12:01 UTC

i doubt we can agree on that

2018-11-12 02:12:09 UTC

everyone likes their gibs

2018-11-12 02:12:21 UTC

Yeah, federalism has been under consistent attack.
