those who murdered the farmers still roam there
death would be better than giving them to the crazies down there
although, we could sick murders on places we don't like.
i can see both sides of the argument. i agree that to the innocent the loss of freedom for decades is torture. and yeah you cant undo an execution so no answer is perfect
exile is really the only preferred solution
What if we just... Improved our prisons?
we could do that
improved them how?
i am for improving them yeah
but then society needs to determine if it is willing to forgive.
currently it is not.
get jailed for anything, good luck finding work
even innocent, you still ahve to say yes. and if they find out you are lying, good bye.
It's harder, but it's hardly a death sentence... Especially compared to a death sentence.
you know how many people we send back to jail because selling dope was the only way for them to earn a living?
some of them we even FINE for having been in jail
@Grenade123 we have something here in the UK called the "rehabilitation of offenders act" the TL:Dr is that for minor crimes after a set period of non offending you do not have to declare the crime except for certain exempt jobs like child care
The only way?
they server their debt to society, and we go "now pay us back"
the conviction is considered "spent"
sorry I can't think of rehabilitation as something serious, as the left tries to make sure that anyone that disagrees with them have no right to have a job
what do you mean "even innocent"
Is it not possible that society would be more accepting of former convicts if we improved our rehabilitation systems and convicts were better to integrate?
@taekahn if you are found wrongly convicted
Ah
You can get an expungement in that case though
Then you don't have to say yes
Seems like a self feeding cycle. Convicts have poor chances because of society's opinions of them -> they break the law again to thrive -> society has reason to have bad opinions of them
@Schedrevka depends, what if society is the reason we haven't improved it yet?
it is a self feeding cycle
Then change has to be made over time.
but running on the platform of "allow thieves to work in your shop" isn't a popular one.
But saying "this shit is too difficult let's just mercy kill them" is hardly a step in the right direction if you ask me
"Let the drunk driver who killed a kid drive a big rig!"
because the odds alone of them being thieves again are quite high
I don't know, Trump seems to be doing pretty well with his support for that prison reform list
yes.... but that is also partly due to our system
although more true of people in for drug charges
i mean, if you are arrested for drug dealing, then kicked out on your ass with nothing but still know all your contacts, is that a surprise? You don't have much options. Even if you only do it short term to get your feet back under you, if you get caught, you are done.
you are all raising good points on this. I really believe "better 10 guilty go free than one innocent goes to jail" that said im not anti the death penalty. its a tough one
People in jail have plenty of free time on their hands.
If they waste it and then try to figure out what to do with their life *after* jail, isn't that on them?
