You're going to have to get into specifics instead of vague tribal designations and butchered political terms (the latter being exactly what Liberal is at this point)

2018-12-04 20:04:23 UTC

lets go with democrats

2018-12-04 20:04:28 UTC

are there any democrats here

2018-12-04 20:05:42 UTC

@DrYuriMom for sure. A lot of Europeans and Canadians in here though

2018-12-04 20:06:01 UTC

So it'd be hard for them to vote Dem

2018-12-04 20:06:54 UTC

I am a liberal. But in classical / european sense. That means low taxes, reduced welfare

2018-12-04 20:08:30 UTC

Also worth remembering that Tim refers to himself as "left libertarian"

2018-12-04 20:08:45 UTC

that would be me too lol

2018-12-04 20:09:19 UTC

If anything the discord trends toward center, with some spicy radical bois mixing things up every so often

2018-12-04 20:11:47 UTC

I'm an independent that generally votes Democrat but not because I really like them anymore

2018-12-04 20:12:19 UTC

I've voted Republican. Did so last month for governor.

2018-12-04 20:13:15 UTC

@Dugamar you mention that the β€œone man, one vote” system leads to two party system. I disagree. It is all about the number of seats in an electoral district. This is the norm in e.g. USA and UK. Where you can only elect one representative in each district. In my country each district elect 8 seats in parliament, still with β€œone man, one vote”. This have resulted in a multitude of parties getting elected.

2018-12-04 20:15:27 UTC

So the top 8 vote getters in that district get elected?

2018-12-04 20:16:10 UTC

Yes

2018-12-04 20:16:35 UTC

How many districts are there?

2018-12-04 20:18:08 UTC

22 districts and the former colonies each send two representatives

2018-12-04 20:18:28 UTC

Greenland and Faeroe Islands

2018-12-04 20:25:55 UTC

I dunno that you could split the US like that

2018-12-04 20:26:04 UTC

@oprahsminge That's an oversimplification of what they want, technically we all fuck animals, as humans are just as much of an animal as a dog, a sheep, or a shark.

2018-12-04 20:26:45 UTC

And the alternative would be heavy government bloating

2018-12-04 20:27:05 UTC

I am becoming quite fond of a 1/2/3 vote

2018-12-04 20:27:33 UTC

Ranked voting?

2018-12-04 20:27:41 UTC

Yes

2018-12-04 20:28:13 UTC

Maybe, I just think we need to get rid of the federal government overrides.

2018-12-04 20:28:17 UTC

We have an issue here in BC where NDP and Liberals trade off dominance because voting for Cons/Greens/etc means that "the other side wins"

2018-12-04 20:29:00 UTC

So we'll get liberals making a dumb decision or 10 and then because nobody wants the NDP they'll get in the next 2 times as well. Once you hit fucks given spillover then the NDP gets a turn

2018-12-04 20:29:09 UTC

It's a really bad setup

2018-12-04 20:29:12 UTC

I think we'd get some DSA, and even some NSM members with that system though.

2018-12-04 20:29:18 UTC

ranked voting.

2018-12-04 20:30:06 UTC

Maybe. But is the honest solution to just shove that shit under the rug and pretend it isn't there?
Sunlight is the best disinfectant

2018-12-04 20:30:36 UTC

No the solution is to not give the government enough power that it matters.

2018-12-04 20:30:48 UTC

Oh I'd want that as well

2018-12-04 20:31:02 UTC

It's too late for that though.

2018-12-04 20:31:17 UTC

But to the extend that abusable power is necessarily within the purview of government, I'd like one that is a little more representative at the very least

2018-12-04 20:31:41 UTC

I am of the perception that gerrymandering would be a thing of the past if the US joined 10 electoral districts into 1 large district with ten seats.

2018-12-04 20:32:38 UTC

I'll worry about more representative government when we get our 4th and 5th amendment rights back.

2018-12-04 20:32:58 UTC

I'm not seeing how you keep regional representation intact, @4AM_critter πŸ‰

2018-12-04 20:33:34 UTC

@Dennafen bring back 2A proper while you're at it

2018-12-04 20:33:48 UTC

I'm okay with that too.

2018-12-04 20:34:17 UTC

Once you give the federal government power it's almost impossible to have them release it.

2018-12-04 20:34:30 UTC

I assume a region that would elect 1 seat would still manage to elect that seat. but they get help from other regions.
